And, if he fails, he can always go back to another mid-major based on his one-year success, name recognition, and dad's connections. But I do agree, he's giving Drake the shaft.
Money talks and BS walks. You see this every day, just read the paper today. As for ICEMAN's quote of one yr. wonder, that remains to be seen! Also as being given the gig gift wrapped, I'm not sure I would agree with Iceman's quote there either! If I remember right Drake was not even picked to finish in the upper half of the MVC and by meny dead last before the season started! Also I don't recall seeing his dad (Dr. Tom) setting on the bench calling any of the plays! Also the going down thing is another quote that remained to be seen and now that's looking like we will never no! As for giving Drake the shaft, alot of schools would kill for a shaft like that (a record like they had this yr., national ranking, a MVC title, MVC Tour. Cham. and a NCAA tour. seed). All this that hadn't been done for a great meny yrs. and inclueing 5 or 6 yrs. with his dad a the helm.
Sorry guys can't go along with any of what you both agree on, and if the guy leaves he is just taking the opportunity that anyone would jump on. I hope
he doe's good and is successful! As for me, I will be waiting and hoping for a yr. like Drake had this yr. along with alot of BU Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it appears to be nearing the "Official" stage,
as it is NOW being reported as a done deal,
so Keno is the next Providence coach

"a seven-year deal that will pay him about $1 million per year."

If he has the shot, how could Keno ever be sure he'd be in the same position next year? Sometimes a chance like this comes only once.
Even When Dan Monson failed at Minnesota, he still made millions, then got another D-I job right away when he was fired!
          That's why I said:

If I was him, I'd take the money and run.

Congratulations Keno. How ironic! After 1 year as a head coach, he is already coaching at a high level school/conference, and will be making more than a million a year.

His father spent a lifetime coaching and had some pretty good success, but I'll bet he never made close to $1 million a year! It's good for Keno that we live in a different era, and coaches can now make some really big money.

He is getting out while he is a hot commodity , his package at Providence will set his family up for life . Who will be the next Ok. State coach as I believe Gillespie is pulling a Self to get a better deal from Kentucky.

He's currently in Iowa. Have any of you ever lived in Iowa for anything other than school? I have. I try not to remember. I dont blame him.

will Dr. Tom un-retire and take over as head coach?

Keno is hot and you strike while the iron is hot...he could have a horrible year next season and he'd really regret saying no!
Agreed. Case in point: Mo should have left Bradley right after his NCAA team for better things when his iron was hot. He did not, and spent some years as an assistant and now he is at Western Illinois...

I definitely don't see this as a bad move for Keno - there's obviously the monetary benefits, but he also has a decent talent base to work with.

Providence returns most of their roster for next season, and they played better than their 15-16 record shows - they finished 74th in the Pomeroy rankings and had several nice wins (Arkansas, Temple, Florida State, UConn twice). Even just a small improvement could get them into the NIT next season, and I wouldn't totally rule out an NCAA bid if they can get some unexpected improvement from a returnee or two.

As far as the future, Keno will definitely need to recruit a solid class of 2009, as 5 rotation players will be seniors next season. He will, however, have two very good guards in Brian McKenzie and Dwain Williams for the next two seasons, so it's not like he's got nothing to build upon past next season.

It should be interesting to see how it plays out at Providence for Keno Davis.

Keno speaks on his new job...

"....some Bulldog fans who feel jilted. Davis says the same people that are angry that he is leaving are probably the same ones that got angry when he got the job, because of who he was (Tom Davis' son.) Davis says overall it is the best move for him and his family."

He's probably right. They're probably also the parents of the kids that just made him a millionaire, and probably thought it would have been nice for him to at least show up at their postseason banquet.

Keno did show up at the team banquet. It was an event at the Iowa Statehouse honoring his team that he blew off.
