  • Replays at all games ... ... ...

    I know we are all aware of replays being used in various other sports. Imagine each college basketball team being allowed, for the sake here of example and one being extreme and the other minimal, two replay calls per half or five per game per team. Imagine. I enjoy the shot clock. Indeed. Great addition to the game. Would not the allowance of this bring an entirely new facet to the game being played?

    Okay. Update time. I was aware of what follows in another post regarding the reality of how the game can be indeed stopped for what I would call 'checkage' of certain calls such as two point - three point discrepancies and the like. What I want you all to consider deals with the fact referees are human with their own human qualities such as likes and dislikes. Dislikes in partuicular of the Bradley School and program. Maybe we could also call this a bias not unlike the BCS looking down on all others. Regardless, one or all [WHY DO WE NEED THREE TO DO THE JOB OF TWO?????] of these on court policemen could come in to {what I rarely see here in the civic center} our home court advantage and completely without fail nullify said 'advantage' with calls of what I will say to be of the most extreme more frequently on our offensive side taking the crowd time and again out of the equation thereby handing away our rightful advantage every time to the opposing team. Were it to be this only took place on the rarified occasion, I would not be bringing it up, but, alas, it has become something to be expected every home game no matter the opponent.

    NOW, if it were to be there was a chance something could be done about all of these said malfeasances such as Coach Les throwing out a flag on to the court showing concern/lack of belief of the truism of yet another phantom call, maybe, these ******************** calls would happen much less frequently. The game is not about the referees. No, it is about the two teams on the floor doing their collective bests to win the game and a more fluid game of much less foul calling coming from the reality of all of the above, I believe, would be in the best interests of the fans, the teams and any one else involved. Amen.

    I don't think we'll ever see it. There are too many timeouts and stoppages now, this would add 4 more long stoppages of play, especially near the ends of games.

      I think because there are a significant amount of ref calls already in basketball, I don't think adding one or two challenges for each team will do much to turn the tide of a game. It'd be more of a gimmick. They'd need a lot more, and I'm not in favor of that.

        Officials may use official courtside replay equipment, videotape or television monitoring that is located on a designated courtside table??¦.

        a. A determination if a fight occurred and the individuals who participated or left the bench area;

        b. A determination who should attempt a free throw(s) when there is uncertainty;

        c. An assessment whether correctable errors c, d or e need to be rectified;

        d. Preventing or rectifying a scoring mistake by the scorer;

        e. f. g. and h. timing mistakes (too long for me to copy ??“ the rulebook is a pdf file so I cannot cut and paste)

        i. A determination if a try for goal was a two- or three point attempt;

        j. A determination whether a player was fouled on his or her unsuccessful field goal try, at or near the three-point line, shall attempt either two or three free throws.

          Honestly, I don't have a problem with the way replay is used today. I think this proposal would slow down the game too much.

            I think most of the officiating controvercy in college basketball involves no calls. Humans make mistakes, and it is part of the game. Its the no calls that get coaches and fans excited, and they can not be challenged.

              A whole new can of worms. Interesting ... ... ...

              I never thought about the 'no calls'. Hhhhmmmm. Until now. Hhhhmmmm. Could it be we, as fans, recognize these 'no calls' because of the miserable calls going against us, ahead of these said 'no calls'? If so, does not my idea of a review/replay make even more sense?

                The game is great the way it is and this would not change poorly officiated games, officials should be taught that they are not part of the show and just officiate the game impartially and we would not have as many problems with them. Does anybody have an e-mail address for the supervisor of officials for the valley?

                  Agreed that this would be a bad idea. Refs and Umps blowing calls have always been a part of sports. I think the more replays and perfection we insist upon chips away at the very fabric of sports as a whole. Players, coaches and game officials all make their share of mistakes. If you need everything perfect every time, either go play a video game or suggest that we develop robots to play on the court to go along with this sterilizing environment.

                  As I've always thought (and any good coach, including Jim Les has alluded to), if your team is good enough, then it shouldn't matter about a bogus call here or there. Don't put yourself in a position where anyone but the teams on the field have a chance to influence the outcome.
