  • ISU gets walkon- prep school forward Kellen Thornton

In this Bloomington Pantagraph article about the ISU postseason banquet Thursday, there is some interesting news about Tim Jankovich's recruiting.
They have no available scholarships, but they just got a commitment from 5'10" juco guard Lloyd Phillips. And in addition, a prep school forward was on campus and at the banquet. Kellen Thornton, who attended high school at Hillcrest (IL) High School, averaged "about nine points a game for Brewster" Academy. If he decided to come to ISU, that would mean 2 of their current scholarship players will be asked to leave.

    Notes--
WMBD's Kurt Pegler, an ISU grad, did the highlight video.
Anthony Slack won the Most Outstanding Rebounder award (7.1 rpg).
Dom Johnson won the Most Outstanding Free Throw award (81.1%).
Boo Richardson won the Most Outstanding Assist Award (3.7 apg).
Levi Dyer won the Most Outstanding Three-Point Shooting Award (42.2%).
Dinma Odiakosa won the Most Improved Player Award.
Boo Richardson won the Redbird Award for leadership, heart, effort and attitude.
Osiris Eldridge won the The Doug Collins Award for most valuable player.

Pantagraph article reporting that Kellen Thornton will walk-on at ISU in the fall--

This article reports that he chose to walk-on at ISU despite having scholarship offers from Bradley, Evansville, Kent State, and Loyola (Md.).
That's the first I have heard that Bradley offered him a scholarship. Maybe it was similar to the ISU offer that the article says was made last fall. He admits he waited too long and their scholarship offer disappeared when they did not have any more scholarships available.
He averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds a game for Brewster (N.H.) Academy.

It is hard to find much on Kellen Thornton, but...

I have some suspicions about the Bradley offer, but who really knows for sure.
The offer could have been way back when the kid was in high school at Hillcrest.
None of the recruiting services, nor even the kid himself had ever said he had an offer from Bradley.
PLUS, until Cole-Scott left, BU didn't have a scholarship for the kid, so please tell me how BU could have offered?

The only mention on any of the recruiting sites is Rivals has Kellen listed as no-stars, and 6-6, 195 lbs., but maybe he grew after he left high school.
