  • SIU hires assistant coach with ties to Chicago AAU program

Lance Irvin has been hired by Chris Lowery as an assistant coach to replace Jack Owens, who moved to Purdue.

Irvin is a well travelled assistant. He is the son of Mac Irvin, who runs the Chicago based AAU program Mac Irvin Fire (formerly the Illinois Fire).

Lance Irvin has previously spent short stints as an assistant at DePaul, Loyola, Illinois State, SMU, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Idaho.

Lance Irvin has been assistant now at NINE different schools, and it's his connections with AAU circles in Chicago and the ability to help get players that gets him those jobs. I hope someone at NCAA follows the money.....

You can bet that SIU ends up with Ryan Hare now.
