(and no, I am not going to include Danny Granger's stats)

Andrew Warren did a pretty good job....ahead of a few BU players who ended up getting drafted by the NBA)

It would have been very interesting to see AP, AZ and PG play in the four guard, shoot alot of threes, run and gun O that the team plays now. I think AP may have averaged 25 plus per game in our current system.

Hersey became the go to guy for that team and he had a pretty good point guard that year that fed him the ball.

I agree. That would have really be fun to watch. AP averaged 18 and was an all-american playing slow-down basketball. One can only imagine what he could do in this type of system. It would have been scary.

I think AW is beginning to benefit just as AP would have. Many thought that AW's skill set was similar to AP's and we are beginning to see that to be true.

AP's athleticism is what set him apart. AW is no slouch athletically but AP was at another level.

I just ran across a column today by Mark Tupper covering the Illini basketball, and he spends a long, long column talking about how great a shooter
and scorer Jamar Smith is and how he really would have helped Illinois this past year.
Maybe so.....but let's look at the stats...
I think the Illini people are so starved for scoring that they have pipe dreams!

Jamar returns next fall for his FOURTH YEAR at Illinois (played two years/redshirted one), let's compare Jamar Smith stat-wise to Andrew Warren,
who just finished his SECOND year at BU, and to Theron Wilson who just finished his very first season at BU. You decide.
(Recall that Theron Wilson was the 4th leading scorer for BU last season and only the 19th best scorer in the Missouri Valley.)

and Andrew's 2-year stats completely blow away Jamar's.
I wish only the best for Jamar, but where were those guys who were saying
we shouldn't put too much pressure on these guys with such lofty predictions?

I just want to say... I think Jamar is gonna have a huge-bust-out-year next year. The fine young gentleman has been given a golden opportunity (after some very bad judgement) and I think he will deliver.

After seeing the list of players AW is in front of you realize just how big of season he really had and that was all done in a season with an injury to boot....nice job AW!

Warren really did have an amazing sophomore year. Most games he looked great, and he still has a lot of room to grow more! I can't wait to see him play next season.

Just a little fun with numbers & not taking into consideration the fact that other players on the list may have missed games their soph year, but....

If you multiply AW's 5 missed games by his average of 13.2/game you get another 66 points. That would put him at number 4 with 501pts. Then look at those other names - JJ Anderson, Hersey Hawkins & Chet Walker!!

That's some pretty big stuff & as everyone has said, he has alot of room to improve. Maybe he could spend some time with AP!! Like Gillingham did with Nash that one summer.

As I have said from the first time I saw him play, AW is going to be the best player BU has had since AP and they similar players. He could be in the top 5 or at least the top 10 in BU scoring before he leaves.

BU is losing its two senior guards, so Andrew Warren's contributions will be very, very important.

Getting back to a few of the reports I had heard about Jamar Smith making such a huge difference for Illinois next year.
Illinois loses none of its guards... they only lose Randle, Pruitt, and Alexander, and that's who they need to replace most.
In fact, Illinois' guard play is what kept them in most games, so just whose production is Jamar's going to replace?
Whatever minutes Jamar players are going to take away from the minutes played by Meacham, Brock, & McCamey, and yet those guys all averaged around 10 ppg in league play.
So unless Jamar can come in a score 20 ppg, then I just can't see more than a few points improvement in next year's Illini, as they are still going to get beat badly on the blocks.
Also, of the top 20 3-point shooters in the nation (all the way down to 44%) this season, only one actually had an impact in helping his team at the major conference level (Shan Foster/Vandy).
