  • Anthony Parker's Defensive Stats = Honorable mention

Last year, Ken Pomeroy had AP on his NBA All-Defensive first team based on a formula that looks at: player's traditional individual statistics (defensive rebounds, blocks, steals and personal fouls) as well as his team's defense and factoring in minutes played; defensive net-plus minus.

KP claims that AP's numbers are "way, way down." If you just compare AP's individual defensive stats from last year to this year, you see some changes, but overall he seems to playing at a similar defensive level:

    Category ...... 2006 ...... 2007
    Minutes/g ...... 33.4 ......... 32.4
    Def Rebs/g .... 3.1 ......... 3.5
    Steals/g ........ 1.0 ......... 1.0
    Blocks/b ........ 0.2 ......... 0.2
    PF/g ............. 1.8 ......... 2.0

Toronto's team stats for '07/08 are slightly improved over '06-07 in the areas of Def rebounds (up to 30.5 from to 30.2) and team fouls (down to 19.6 from 20.4). Steals are down slightly and and blocked shots are up slightly. From what I can see, I'm not sure why he would describe AP's numbers as "way, way down." AP is still listed as Honorable Mention, so I guess even with his statistics down this year, he is still one of the best defensive shooting guards in the league.

Also, some stat guru came up with a modified plus minus system that took into account who was on the court with you both teammates and opponents. AP, I think, was number 14. If I'm off it is no more than 1 up or 2 down.

If I remember correctly I posted this at the time, but I'm too lazy to look right now. Maybe later.
