This particular COY award goes to John Calipari
I have no argument with this as everyone is entitled to their opinions, but.....
Many people had picked Memphis #1, and predicted them to win the National Championship, way back last fall,
based just on the fact that the guy had a team comprised of the best talent in college basketball.
Back in 1996, John Calipari won this award but it was when he did extremely well leading
UMass to the Final four with considerably less talent than some of the other teams had.
How do people feel about this? If the guy has the best talent, and if a lot of people rank them as the best team
and even pick them 6 months in advance as theteam most likely to win the National Championship based on talent,
and the guy doesn't even do as well as predicted, and loses to a lower seeded Kansas...
then could an argument be made that he "undercoached" them? Personally Calipari would have ranked behind Keno Davis,
Matt Painter, Rick Barnes, Sean Miller, and Bo Ryan in my judgement of who the best coaches were in 2007-2008.
