    CUSA Trny sites:

In 1997, SLU was 11-18 (4-10 in conference) with an RPI of 171, losing 1st round in St Louis to Cincy 71-43.

I think going to 12 and splitting into a 'private' and 'public' school division would make the most sense and be the most fun.

      Private

      Bradley
      Butler
      Creighton
      SLU
      Evansville
      Drake

      Public

      SIU
      MSU
      UNI
      WSU
      ISU
      InSU

The most logical way to schedule would be home-and-home with the 5 other teams in your division (10 games), and one game with each of the 6 in the other division (6 games). Now, if the league wanted to keep the 18 game schedule, they could allow for rotating cross-divisional home-and-homes with 2 teams (2 games). The tourney would give byes to the top 4 teams in the league.

I know some of the traditionalists would hate this because we would lose the home-and-home with ISU, but I think overall this would be a great move for the long-term prospects of the MVC becoming a true national power conference when it comes to basketball.

intriguing idea, BB, but if it's a weighted schedule we're looking at, I'd prefer one geographically weighted. East/West

        East
        Evansville
        InSt
        ISU
        SIU
        BU
        Butler

        West
        Creighton
        SLU
        MSU
        Drake
        WSU
        UNI

or, add another 2 schools (Xavier & dayton) and shift SIU to the west.

Heck, that's almost better than my public and private idea. It certainly keeps the natural geographical rivalries intact (BU-ISU, BU-SIU), which is kind of important I think. Let's go with it!

I would welcome St Louis, Butler, Dayton or depaul to the league....but make it 2 @ a time...heck I think it would help recruiting overall! Bigger markets and maybe more TV time!

I am not sure why either Dayton or DePaul would want to leave their present situation to move to the MVC. Butler and SLU would be logical choices outside shot to a Western Kentucky.

I really would prefer in basketball terms to simply replace Evansville with SLU.

I dont know how often or if it is able to be done but removing Evansville and replacing them with SLU might be a good way to keep everything the way it is in terms of 10 teams. Evansville has shown little committment to their athletics programs and from looking at it as an outsider they seem to be doing everything on a shoe string budget and are not commited to a strong Division 1 program.

And only having to face Creighton once a year certainly wouldn't hurt.

Didn't the Drake often get mentioned (before this year) in the Evansville category of MVC schools the "MVC might be better off if they left" category?

I am sure they were mentioned. Their situation is a little different in that they are a founding member of the conference. They did commit to their program by building the arena they now play in. Evansville has eliminated athletic department positions and their fan base has dwindled and it appears their commitment to a strong athletic department is non existant.

Yeah Drake can stay as long as they like, in my opinion, based on how long they've been in the MVC.

Evansville never should have been added IMO. They've done nothing to enhance the MVC.

Get rid of Evansville and add SLU.

Was Evansville added to replace Tulsa? We should have taken Oral Roberts over Evansville both were former Horizon League members clearly ORU is a much better program than EU.

No, UE did not replace Tula. Evansville joined the MVC in 1994.
Tulsa left after the '95-'96 season. So they were both in the MVC together for 2 seasons.

That's right.... the MVC had 11 teams for a couple years. We had unbalanced scheduling.

                                TRIVIA TIME

Can anyone name the teams we only played 1 time in those 2 seasons?
