Again, as usual, the only thing that spoiled my watching the NCAA championship game last night was having to listen to Billy Packer.
He was his usual annoying self trying to talk over Jim Nance too often, and feeling the need to comment endlessly about everything, and repeating himself numerous times when he thought he was right about something.
At one time late in the game, he chided one of the players for "not knowing the rules". But then a short time later, when Memphis inbounded a ball late in overtime by rolling it slowly upcourt so the clock wouldn't start and they could set up their offense before it was picked up, he screamed "pick it up!" and then exclaimed that "Memphis almost got called for a 5-second violation!".
Well, maybe Billy Packer should know the rules. The 5 second rule states--
A five-second throw-in violation occurs if, during a throw-in, the thrower does not release the ball before five seconds have elapsed
It doesn't matter how long it takes before the next player picks it up, Billy.
That was just one of many mistakes he made during the game. I wish I had jotted more of them down, because now I don't remember all the others. Maybe other posters can list some of the Billy Packerisms they recall from last night.
