  • Just got back from Tulsa

Tulsa...from a dogs point of view

Just got back with OB74. Great trip...even with the loss. Beautiful weather. Tulsa's an interesting city...LOTS of street work being done, reminded me a bit of St Louis.

Nice arena....can get loud. Not as loud as the PCC. It would be nice to have an on campus arena like it but it would NEVER fly that small. OB and I got DaCoach's tickets since he was unable to make it. Great seats if you like sitting in the middle of all the Tulsa fans. It was the quietest I have EVER been at a game. BU had a nice contingent of fans. Seemed to be a bit of controversy as the BU fans behind the bench chose to stand the entire game...didn't endear them to those behind them. Had a cop close on hand and several "officials" speaking with Prez Glasser.

THe fans were nice but I no longer feel bad about complaining about the refs....thats ALL they did...EVERY call. Even thier coach spent the entire game riding the refs instead of coaching the team during time outs. But they won so......

Nothing to report on the game that you don't allready no...we couldn't hit a bucket. Period.

Met Tulsa Brave and his 2 kids. Good group and thank you for all your help. Every recommendation was perfect.

ALso met AW's Dad and brother...actually I had met him in S. Padre but got to speak with him at length in Tulsa. What a GREAT family. His dad and brother are so down to earth and humble..what a pleasure and gift to have them as part of BU's family even if he's a lead foot. (inside joke)

Got to golf Saturday...lots of choices in Tulsa. Not a bad place...no Weaver Ridge but we just kinda of picked one and played.

Wish we could have pulled it out...sure started out like we would. You knew they would have a run in em. Will really miss the Seniors but allready looking forward to NEXT year after the golf season of course.

First time out, so hadn't swung a club since SPI.

        I shot 90...DRU shot 93.

            DRU,

I was also at the game and saw the "controversy" that your refer to behind the bench.

What I couldn't understand was the issue with a couple of our fans and the Tulsa students.

A couple of guys who I know but won't name seemed to be in a continual pi$$ing match with the student section.

The students seemed to be holding a large white sign that I couldn't read that may have been part of the issue. Our fans actually went over to the front row and confronted the students multiple times and security had to be positioned between them. The taunting and such continued until the end of the game.

Does anyone have any additional info?

The sign said something about Brian Lavin and the bench, but I couldn't read it clearly from my vantage point on the other side of the arena from the Bradley fans.

Yeah the sign was directed at #50 (Lavin), asking him how he liked the bench?

DRU and OB74 - It was great to meet you guys...too bad you couldn't witness a BU victory. The TU fans around us were great, even with Brandon yelling defense on almost every TU possession...they didn't seem too bothered by it, which is more than I can say about a couple of BU fans who sat near us in STL back in March...

TB...enjoyed meeting you and your boys. You're doing a good thing...dressing your boys in red Bradley gear and taking them to BU games. Always good to get an early start on becoming a BU fan!

I don't have any reason to dispute what you say, but the issue became awfully heated over Brian Lavin being mildly heckled on a sign about being a bench player.

Anyway, just curious. Sorry to hijack your thread. I am glad you guys had a good time.

Per Golf: The Cherokee resort is a Palmer course and Southern Hills has hosted more PGA Championships than any other course, and has a trio of US Opens notched in. There are a couple others that have hosted LPGA events around town too. Of course, Southern Hills is member only and the Cherokee course is **************** expensive to play on.

Never worth it to this gold hack, but there is championship gold in Tulsa.

And yes, we complained about the refs a ton. Frankly, booing is one of my favorite parts of the game. When we came out as cold as we did and the refs hammered us early as bad as they did, we had no where else to turn (can't boo the team).

Anyway, I'm glad you had a good trip. Had I known you were in town I would have invited you over for some Brisket and the final four (smoked 12lbs of meet for 6.5 hours). If you ever back in Tulsa (for our upcoming series no doubt) float me a message.

                      - Jesse

Jesse, just wanted to say you have been a pleasure to have on here. I would love to see a home and home w/ you guys as I felt we were evenly matched and you guys should be a ton for the next couple of years unless, of course, Jordan decides to be like O'Bryant and go pro. For your sake, and his, I hope he doesn't. The money is great but the experience you get playing college ball, along w/ the degree, would be so much more helpful. We only dream of what we would have had if POB had stayed just as you guys can dream if Jordan stays along w/ the other fine young players you have.
Schools like ours need to be playing each other as not too many of the "big boys" want to come play us-they would rather have a weak non-conf schedule.

Jesse...had a good time in TUlsa. Wish we would have been able to hook up. Someone suggested Dirty's for the final four....wow, ONLY mistake we made all weekend Dirty indeed. We ended up just going back to the room to watch the game. The brisquet sounded great. We did have a source (Tulsa Brave) that gave us some great suggestions.

The Tulsa fans were very nice...we had no problems what-so-ever with any of them. I don't see to many road games so the crowd complaining about the refs was kinda new to me. I'm sure visitors think the same at most arena's. You sure were not getting the same calls you were getting Monday.

Overall I think the officiating was fine Friday. As someone mentioned it was a simple as the shots not falling. Our point guards 4th call hurt but that happens. He did reach in but the first fould was on JC. THATS when they blew the whistle. The ref just missed awarding it to the correct guy...oh well.

We played Clary Fields. Nothing special but it was nice. We were having problems getting a T time around 10am. Most were 2-3 in the PM.

Hey if we ever make it back we'll look you up for sure. Same if you guys make it to Peoria.

Thanks for posting....good luck next year. Beat Memphis.

I don't know of any good sports bar downtown now that I think about it. a few nice clubs, some watering holes (Arnies just across the street from Dirty's), a couple pubs, some upscale/yuppie places... but no sports bars. Never thought of that. Dirty's would be a drinking establishment - good for beer pong and getting hammered.

There is a new Pizza House/Bar going in with several projection screen TVs that will play games per the owner...

Anyway, the calls were not bad. But to start off we were playing bad and the calls were against us... so why not!

The students section indeed had a sign that said "Hey [so and so] how do you like riding the bench?" Presumably just some random guy they chose to pick on to try and distract the team/fans. Seems to have worked - I just took it as those fans didn't ever really travel (traveling means being a little more timid than usual).

Our self appoint unofficial mascot "Charlecane," the guy dressed as a blue and gold knight - thing with a construction cone, got ejected. When Walls fouled out he asked the ref "how much are you getting paid" and they had him escorted from the arena.

Then the "sit down" thing is ridiculous. I get told to sit down all the time at football games on 4th downs and what not. I got told to sit down when we were down by 1 and had the chance to take the lead for the first time - but that bastard got shouted down by everyone around me. Personally I was impressed that ya'll stood the entire game.

Generally I'm civil, but not during games. Thus, I could never sit near visiting fans.
                            - - -

Here is a question, and please don't be offended. When you guys immediately jumped to a 12-2 lead again I asked by wife if we should hang a CBI runner up banner from the rafters along with elite 8, sweet 16, NIT champ and conference banners. Clearly we will hang the championship banner.

But what are your thoughts? Do people hang NIT runner up banners? I don't know.

Maybe schools like UCLA and Kentucky wouldn't because they have enough championship banners hanging.

But most schools would hang an NIT banner that would say NIT Finals.
I don't know if Bradley will have a CBI Finals banner.
