Here are a couple comments I found about coaches who are faced with the decision of leaving a midmajor and going to a BCS school:
Dan Monson (left Gonzaga to go to Minnesota):
"(he) never felt like he'd made a mistake going to Minnesota because at the time no one knew that Gonzaga was going to become good and he had an opportunity to quadruple his salary from what it was... at the end of the day, in the back of your mind, yeah, it's financial security and this and that, but the only thing that's truly going to make you happy is whether you're winning or losing."
Bill Grier (turned down offer from Oregon State to stay at San Diego):
"...tempted and torn by the $4 million overtures of Oregon State...
At the end of the day, it felt if I did it I was doing it for one reason, just for the money,” Grier said... “Granted, it would have been great for my family from a financial standpoint but, you know, I never got into this to make money."
Steve Fisher of San Diego State:
"surprised (at Grier's decision).... citing the perilous nature of their profession and the need to “strike while the iron is hot.”"
Bill Self's agent...and a few other coaches...
"... never say never"
