  • Good Game (3)

Well, good game guys. We both played poorly, we played less-poorly at the end.

    1) Refs... ugly again. They started by blowing on Tulsa nonstop, then decided to blow plenty of makeup calls. The reverse happened in the second half. But down the stretch (5 minutes) they put their whistles away until Bradley started fouling to stop the clock. I don't think claims that the refs did it will have much merit.

    2) Crouch was either well guarded or just off tonight. He aired one up from 3, shot ~50% from the line, and didn't have any of his nice little floaters. I think it was some of each (guarding and being off). Shooting 35% from the floor (what 30% in the second half) was a death blow.

    3) If Tulsa's offense was any more boring I was going to charge the floor. Again you guys had good ball movement as seen by your assist #s (though we got around screens/switched MUCH better) and got a ton of open looks. Most of Tulsa's shots were ugly and we had to earn it. Your guys usually had great defense.

    4) Rebounds, you lost on rebounds. I think we were +10 on the glass and we shot it well from the stripe. That was the difference going in to it. Well, that and you couldn't buy a shot in the second half for some reason.

    5) Bradley Fans: The fans at the game were LOUD, the stood the entire time, and they were courteous when I bumped into a few after the game. They over flowed the "visitor" section and spread out into the rafters. I'd say 200 - 300 red glad Braves. Not bad with 36 hours notice!

Some jerk wad behind me actually told me to sit down (another Tulsa fan ) when we were down 24-25 and we had the ball trying to take the lead for the first time. Luckily he was shouted down by those around me who asked him for the rest of the game "can we stand up now?" Some people...

But again, I was impressed with the fans in red. Both on this site, in Illinois (by the way, I'd say 33% of people here pronounce the "S" - we are near the Illinois river so it comes up from time to time. I'm from Iowa, the "S" drives me crazy. Argh), and in Tulsa. I hope they still had a good trip - they certainly saw an entertaining back and forth game.

    6) Your players were composed for the most part the entire game. i saw no Tulsa nor Bradley players that whined constantly about calls, no cheap shots (above the normal position fighting etc.) and frequently saw a pick-up after a hard foul. On a 3 game series I was afraid there would be some ill emotion out there.

Good games. Good series. I hope we see you again sometime (next year in the final 4 sound OK?).

No hard feelings, but do you recall when Ruffin got his 4th foul? Am I wrong in, thinking that was just plain ridiculous??? That was huge, with all the time still left in the game!

Tulsa would be a nice addition to the MVC again. Get rid of the football team and come back!

If I remember that foul correctly, Ruffin was no where NEAR the action. The replay showed contact, but not by him. I have to give you that one. We had the same thing happen with Walls, who couldn't stay out of foul trouble against you guys.

And get rid of football? Come on man! Are you forgetting that I am in Oklahoma? Or that we have the NUMBER ONE OFFENSE IN THE NATION! 5 years, 4 bowls. C-USA Champions 4 years ago and 2 runner ups. Massive stadium renovations for next year. Bringing back our star receivers (3 over 1000 yards) and all our running backs (one a 1000 yard rusher).

          BCS OR BUST BABY!

UAB (game moved, it is first now)
          North Texas
          New Mexico
          Central Arkansas
          Rice
          SMU

New Mexico is pretty good, but if we can get past them at home we should start off 6-0 and at least draw some looks. If we beat UCF (last years C-USA champ) and are 7-0 I expect a ranking (especially to set up the ESPN matchup with...)

The Hogs - Arkansas is not as big of a fish as you might fear (Sans QB, Jones, and Mcfadden and con new coach), Fayetteville is only ~1:30 away (as are OU and OSU). There is a little beef as their old coach told their OC that his scheme didn't work in D-I football and sidelined him - coach Graham came to Tulsa and in his first year put up the biggest numbers in the game (hog fans are often de facto Tulsa fans). If we beat the SEC's Hogs and are 8-0 we **************** well better get on the map in time for another BCS ranking.

Then it's just a matter of a hard game with Houston (we beat them 67-7 last year, they are probably hungry) and coasting in to a win against Tulane before facing (probably) Skip Holtz' E. Carolina in the C-USA Championship.

I see 9-3 as a minimal goal. 10-2 and a C-USA championship as THE goal. And a perfect run an actual possibility.

Basketball is fun, but I live and breath college football! to bad for a school with 4,000 kids (smallest in D-I football).

(you had no idea what you were bringing up, did you?)

I had to get the game via text messages from my sister but it kept 8 of us at a wedding reception glued to my phone, lol!

Luckliy, the first dance happened during a period of several time outs because we all did a little woop! and high-fived each other when we finally won.

Anyway, I have really enjoyed the fans over here and the visitors to the Tulsa board. You all had a great team that probably would have been in the NCAA's if it weren't the random injuries and other issues.

Tulsa Brave posted on the TU board he comes to some TU football games. You all have been great and I hope the two schools can renew the 100+ basketball game rivalary but, until that happens, if you happen to be in Tulsa and there is a home football game, let me know as you are welcome to come by our tailgate and enjoy some good food, beverages of your choice, and great company!

            Good luck next season Braves!

Yeah, that was a bad call that may have affected the game, but I thought the game was called the same way both ways. They really seemed to let players bang around the basket, which was to Tulsa's advantage. I'm not complaining at all, it's just that sometimes how a game is called benefits one team more than the other (like if the refs are calling the hand-checking of SIU).

hehe, actually I meant by the smiley that I'm really happy when they actually do call SIU for that stuff since it's only once in a blue moon.

I thought the officiating was fine and the key to the game was Bradley's bad shooting. Tulsa had at least 5 baskets on shots that hit the rim and bounced 2, 3, or more times then still went in, and none of BU's shot seemed to get the bounce.
I am sure Tulsa's defense had a part to play, but esp. JC was off last night.
Kudo's to Tulsa, but I'd love to see how a series turns out where we play 3 of our final four games at home instead of 3 of 4 on the road.

                        Shake hands?

Nice remarks about the series...... The only thing I saw VERY wrong about the Tulsa team was the lack on handshakes by the Tulsa team after the game. Next time after a victory, take time to shake hands and then go celebrate. Plenty of time to climb on tables and dance!!

That is a good point Brewsksi. I'm sure it was over looked in the rush of students onto the court (I don't think your team stuck around) and the release following such a hard fought game - but it should not have been. Our coach had good things to say about your program following the win and I'm sure the snub was not intentional.

I stayed for about 30 minutes hoping to see Bradley presented with their trophy so I could applaud their effort, but did not see them reemerge from the locker room (perhaps understandably).

Also, Tornado (dangerously close to Hurricane?) - it would have certainly been a different series on the road and I don't think we would have won it. Home court was KEY.

On a side note - one of my friends now has a new born baby boy... he NAMED HIM BRADLEY!

I appreciated the mentioned pick ups after a player was knocked to the floor....I expect that from the teammates, but to see both teams pick each other up, showed great spoRtsmanship and respect for each other and the game.....

That's not what I saw. I don't know if every TU player shook hands, but it sure seemed like most of them did. It was right in front of me. I remember Uzoh and a couple of others very vividly. We looked at Wilson, so I think some of the players knew him.

Good series. Hope we play y'all every year. You have some of the best fans I've encountered on message boards.
