  • Marquette's Two Top Recruits Ask for Release

arguably their best two incoming players, appear to want to get their releases in a hurry and not wait to see who Marquette hire,
and it's probably because of the upcoming late signing period, so they can be immediately available to
talk with other schools before many fill their scholarships for 2008.

Thinking back to early fall when we had our shot with Iman Shumpert.. what if he would have decided on going to Marquette instead of GT and been one of these players to ask for a release? BU has one scholarship open, he obviously developed a relationship with our staff.. Does anyone think he would have made his switch to Peoria??? What an interesting scenario that would have been!

They may wish to join Crean at Indiana.

        That's what I'm figuring. I can't blame them.

Jay: She's my daughter, you're my wife. Let's remember what's important, there's a football game on today

We never had a realistic shot at landing Iman Shumpert.
If he would have signed with Marquette, instead of GT, then he would have just signed with GT or Clemson if he wanted to opt out of his hypothetical Marquette committment.

It was nice that Iman rewarded us by being in on him early and kept us on his list of schools ofr a while, but he was simply not going to come here over an ACC or good Big East school...

I think your assessment is not entirely accurate. If Bradley "never had a realistic shot", Jim Les wouldn't have wasted his time and resources on continuing to recruit the kid.
Iman Shumpert did not keep Bradley among his final school choices just because he was being loyal to BU for being in on him early. He even said as much in a couple interviews, when people questioned why such a highly rated player would keep Bradley in his final 4 or 5 schools. It is almost an insult to say that he kept listing Bradley and Bradley went through the motions, for what? Publicity sake?

The facts are that he liked everything Bradley had to offer him, he liked and trusted Jim Les, and considered BU a legitimate option until he trimmed his list to his final 3 in August, 2007. I would agree that after that point, Bradley had no shot at him, but I don't see how anyone could say we had no shot prior to that when the kid said we did.

For those who don't remember, here is an article where he lists Bradley, after he eliminated Notre Dame and Illinois.

Bradley was in Shumpert's final four college choices, but once he eliminated BU, he then eliminated Marquette, UNC, and chose Georgia Tech.
To say BU didn't have a realistic shot at him means I could also say the Marquette, Clemson, or Notre Dame also didn't have a realistic shot since he eliminated them around the same time.
