  • Zach Andrews

School's out and everyone has left campus. Most of the players will be back in early just for summer workouts and the conditioning program
But I have heard from Coach Cornelius at Yuba, that Zach is back there this week and will be playing tonight and for a while with the Yuba players.

It would have been nice if Bradley had a chance to play a game on the West coast next season, but it looking less likely. Instead of the Las Vegas tournament, Bradley appears headed for the Chicago tournament, and the Iowa State game at Des Moines means there are only 3 more nonconference games to be scheduled. Bradley already has road non-conference games at Tennessee Tech and the Bracket Buster, so there may be only 1 or 2 more. Bradley usually plays only 3 or 4 road non-conf games each year.

I hope Zach plans on returning to Peoria this summer. I think he needs to be with his teammates, and needs to be working on his game here. We're going to be counting on him for a lot next year.

Zach will be back at Bradley next week to take summer school and work out. Boy does he look good. The weight room has done him well. He still needs 10 more pounds and work on his go to post move but all he talked about was leading the nation in rebounding. I'll tell you what......he's got a chance.

As always, Coach Corn, we love your input.
Keep sending your best players, here, and we hope they will follow Patrick to the NBA!

We look forward to having Zach back with the team. As with other JC transfers who take a year to get adjusted, I expect Zach to have a breakout year for BU next year!

Thanks a lot for the info Coach Corn. That's music to my ears! All Zach needs is a go-to post move or two, and he could easily average a double-double. I anticipate his summer will involve mastering a couple of offensive moves, shooting 100's of free throws a day, and pounding the weights like there's no tomorrow.

Who was the last Bradley player to average a double double?
(note only a dozen BU players have averaged double digit rebounds)

I have no idea. Double-digit rebounds is certainly a tall order, but Zach is certainly capable of coming close.

I agree Zach is capable if he has a fine year, and I do have an answer, but not just from memory. I do have some data handy..

The last Bradley player to average 10 or more rebounds per game was Steve Kuberski, who averaged 10.1 rebounds per game in 1968-1969. He also averaged 23.0 pts. per game that year, so he is the most recent BU player to average a double double in scoring and rebounds.

BUT---he is NOT the last player to average a double double, that honor goes to:
Anthony Manuel, 1987-1988, 12.1ppg and 12.0 assists per game!!

Here are the players back to the 50's who have averaged a double double for a season:

                  87-88 Anthony Manuel, 12.1ppg/12.0apg
                  68-69 Steve Kuberski, 23.0ppg/10.1 rpg
                  67-68 Joe Allen, 24.5ppg/10.4rpg
                  66-67 Joe Allen, 22.8ppg/11.3rpg
                  65-66 Joe Allen, 18.5ppg/11.0rpg
                  63-64 Joe Strawder, 16ppg/10.8rpg
                  62-63 Mack Herndon, 16.7ppg/10.5rpg
                  61-62 Chet Walker, 26.4ppg/12.3rpg
                  60-61 Chet Walker, 25.2ppg/12.5rpg
                  59-60 Chet Walker, 21.7ppg/13.4rpg
55-56, 56-57, 57-58 Barney Cable did it all three seasons
52-53, 53-54 Dick Estergard did it both seasons.

Anthony Manual averaged 12 assists and double digit points in 1987-88.

Are you referring to a single season or a BU career? Also, are you referring to just BU men or BU women also?

I am considering only men's records, and single season records, averaging a double double, and I suspect that's what was meant in regards to Zach.

Originally, I was thinking maybe Donald Reese.....but the only one I was reasonably sure of was Steve Kuberski. I never considered the double-double of pts/assists for AM.

zack, could be another dennis rodman. i think he has got a chance to have a break-out season and make an nba team. with pob leaving that means more potential rebounds for zack.
