  • First Hand Reports of Patrick O'Bryant's Workout

I have talked with one of the best evaluators of the players who are eligible for the NBA draft, and he has given me some info on Patrick O'Bryant. This info is set for publication on his web site sometime on Wednesday or Thursday, but I can pass a little bit
on to you now, and Jonathan will give me a bit more plus the coverage that will be on his web site

Jonathan Givony is editor and administrator of www.draftexpress.com

and always has lots of outstanding articles about college and NBA topics.

Here are just a few of the pages from his site.

NBA Draft scouting reports, mock drafts, articles on NBA Draft Prospects. Extensive high school, NCAA and international NBA draft coverage.

Here is what he says about Patrick.

"O'Bryant impressed the heck out of me."
Jonathan saw Patrick in a workout at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.

If there was any doubt he'd go among the lottery picks, that doubt is squashed.
I will get more info and some pictures up soon...........
In case you read this, Jonathan, we at BradleyFans.com thank you very much!!

    Thanks, can't wait.
Here is a mention of the Hornets wanting Patrick with their probable 12th pick.

I have heard that Patrick has all but forwarded his mail to New Orleans.
He has apparently been assured as strongly as such an assurance can be given that he'll get chosen by #12, and will send for his belongings in Peoria just as soon as he knows exactly where he'll be buying a home.
Good luck to POB and God bless!!
We will miss you and follow your career with pride!

Are they playing in New Orleans only this year or part-time in OK City? He will need a million dollar contract to have places in both towns...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

Hornets owners are not happy with the efforts shown so far by officials in New Orleans to help get an arena ready and fit for the team.

They played in Oklahoma City this season and averaged 18,717 fans per game --- well above what they were averaging in New Orleans (about 14K).
They plan to play 35 games next season (2006-2007) in Oklahoma City and six in New Orleans, and then tentatively have plans on playing a full 41 game schedule in New Orleans in 2007-2008.
But that is contingent on seeing a BIG advance sales of season tickets in New Orleans for the 2007-2008 season, or the owners will likley reset their plans to go on playing in Oklahoma City.

Everyone agrees that the city and people of New Orleans have many serious concerns, but then you can't ask the team owners to make bad business moves that won't help either city.
My guess is that they are done in New Orleans, and will be staying where they are or looking for yet another home.

No professional team has ever done well in New Orleans, and even when the Hornets made the playoffs and had a good team, they still were among the league's lowest draws, and barely got 14,000 fans per game. It is not a good move to go back there for more of what was failing.

Just as promised, Jonathan Givony of draftexpress has posted an article about Patrick O'Bryant with numerous superlatives.
NBA Draft scouting reports, mock drafts, articles on NBA Draft Prospects. Extensive high school, NCAA and international NBA draft coverage.

                He also has several pictures.

Here are a few of the best comments about Patrick.

In one workout, Patrick was pitted against an NBA veteran...
"Harold Jamison, pitting a 29 year old NBA and Euroleague veteran versus a raw 19 year old mid-major prospect with a ton of hype behind him.

...O'Bryant slowly started to adjust and began to absolutely dominate both offensively and defensively...."

"Watching Patrick O"Bryant practice in person for an hour would have made this trip worth the price of admission even if he was the only player to be seen in the Tampa Bay area all weekend.."

"...it would be shocking to see him fall out of the lottery"
"...if he remains focused once he reaches the NBA, it's scary to think just how good he can be."

"The coaches at Bradley have done a fantastic job with him."

You just have to go to Jonathan's full report at the link above and read the whole thing and see the pics.

If you want to print off the full report about Patrick, here's a better link.

Wow, as slim as the draft is with big men, sounds like POB is a lock to be a top 10 pick!
Here is a tally of five different reporters' mock drafts, and Patrick is considered top-10 by three of them.

I love to see a comment that our coaching staff is in part responsible for how well Patrick's doing. I hope that we can develop a reputation for developing big men.

I agree. Hopefully Xavier Crawford can show the same improvement that POB showed while at BU. If he's already ahead of where POB was at that point in his career, he could be a pleasant suprise for the Braves next season.

So does that mean Xavier will go pro after 1.5 years at BU?

First of all, no one goes pro after 1.5 years unless they become eligible at mid-year. We all know XC doesn't fall into that category.

Secondly, BBrave was just making an observation that perhaps XC could contribute more next year than others have been suggesting.....nothing more.

If XC can develop into the same type of player as POB, I think that's great for him.....and for BU. I just hope he becomes the best player XC can be, regardless of comparisons to POB.

Exactly OB74. You hit the nail on the head. People had POB pegged for a redshirt his freshman year, and by Christmas of that year had the entire gameplan and philosophy changed because of him. I'm not predicting anything for XC. I am just hopeful that with the positive comments we've heard from the staff regarding where XC is right now skill-wise, he is able to give us much more next year than most anticipate at this point.

I didn't see this report posted here yet, so here it is.
It sounds like people have already been impressed by O'Bryant.

                              Check out POB's evaluation--
