I am still for the CBI. "Fixed officiating" or not, the CBI means more basketball, and more chances to see our Braves.

That being said, we did not shoot well enough from behind the arc to win tonight. I think we could win by 10 at home then win again on the road.

Blaming this performance on officiating, no matter how poor it was is silly. If we hit the glass even a bit harder and MAKE OUR FREE THROWS the officiating no matter how crappy it was is not an issue. The fact that Tulsa repeatedly got offensive rebound after offensive rebound is what killed us not a few bad calls.

And to think he started so well, getting the first 3 rebounds of the game....

            I'm with ya, TAS.

This tournament does have some positives, like some of the younger players getting more experience and fans getting to see JC and Ruff a few more times. But getting to this point in this tournament is not a good thing, considering the expectations that were placed on this team at the start of the year.

i also like that Les is using this as time to give DC some more playing time and a chance to play some fun games.
i'm sure he's taking the tournament seriously, but JL is using this as a "how's next year looking" experiment.

p.s. thanks for the sampler Scouter!
I don't necessarily disagree with you, I'm glad DC is getting more minutes and seems to be improving, but if that's the case, why isn't Tyrone getting more/any minutes at all? Has the coaching staff given up on him ... ?

I have always said that this gives the coaches more time to coach our players for next year. Winning is a good thing and by even getting to the finals the guys who have to step up next year will know what it feels like. I'mwith you TAS and Scouterit's a positive experience all around.

On MS it's his temper! He needs to be able to control his emotions. I love his fire but he let's the other teams get into his head and from there on out he over plays himself out of the game. MS is best when he rebounds, set picks and rols to the basket to waits for DR to dish him a pass right next to the hoop.

i hope its not a give up situation.

but I dont know if he's going to be a 25 minute player next year.

probably just a 10 15 minute guy to give Sam a break here and there. my guess is JL knows what TCS is going to give him, and wants to give Sam more time as the player who will have the bulk of the minutes at the point.

My best guess would be Dodie starting at the point, which he did in the Big XII as a frosh. I think Sam will see similar, although slight increase, in playing time next year. That's not a knock at all either because his minutes were inflated this year with Ruffin out so much and TCS not ever getting into a rhythm. I think we will be pretty deep at G next year although a little small.

At one point Bradley had 6 fouls to Tulsa's 2. On 4 of the next possessions they nailed Tulsa for things like farting and a Bradley player being distracted by the smell.
I don't know which half you are referring to, but there was never a time that the fouls were even, in either the 1st or 2nd half. In the 2nd half, I think Bradley had 9 fouls before Tulsa had their 2nd! And Tulsa was hand-checking, and playing aggressive around the basket, more so than BU was.

I was sitting courtside, and I saw the worst officiated game I have seen in many years. And although there were some bad calls againt TU, the majority of them went against Bradley. Jim Les was complaining all night, while Doug Wojcik had only a rare word for the refs.

Jerome Jordan is a fine player, but most of his offensive rebounds came from jumpingover a Bradley player's back. He's really good at that, and the BU player can't get to the rebound because Jordan's arm stops him from jumping. That is usually a foul, but it never was last night. Except for the one key rebound David Collins tried for, then it was a foul immediately.
I could poiny out a dozen more non-calls for TU, and ticky-tack calls against BU, but what good would it do. I was convinced midway through the game that this series was destined to go 3 games. I hope it does. I would like to see the CBI make money, just like they would.

And the NBA continuation foul call that gave TU a 3-point play at a crucial time when BU needed a stop, was easily the worst such call I have ever seen in college basketball. Is there anyone who has ever see a player fouled that far from the basket, then get a dribble and 2 steps before shooting and get a free throw, too?

By the was, is there some conspiracy against posting the simple box score? It is still nowhere to be found on the BU or TU website. And the CBI website doesn't even acknowledge the score.

Another thing I wondered, there was not a single other college basketball game Monday, so the CBI could have hired the best 3 referrees in the country, and got them for a bargain price since there was no oither work to be had anywhere. Yet they hired 3 undistinguished regional guys who have done mostly mid level games--

                          Mike Thibodeaux--

Thibodeaux never officiated a Bradley game all year, but he did Tulsa games, and, in fact, did the Conference USA league tournament!

                          Kelly Self

Self also never saw Bradley all year, but did several Tulsa games.

                          Bill Kennedy--

Kennedy never saw a Bradley game, and never did a game anywhere in Ilinois all year.

Now, I know some will say, "what does that prove?". But if an official gets work from one conference (CUSA) and not the other (MVC), I believe there could be a bias.
Anyway, I can't see any reason the CBI couldn't have hired better officials, with no question of loyalties, or familiarity with one team, especially since hundreds of them were sitting at home not working last night.

Well said DC...others are correct also that BU needed to rebound and shoot better and that blaming the refs is really a tough sell but you gotta call em as you see em.

Personally I was sold on the AW foul. If ANYONE watches that and see how the ref "struggles" to call AW you knew what was going on. Andrew got liteally decked. The refs INSTINCT caused him to hesitate and THINK about the call. He wanted to call the charge for the guy throwing an elbow directly into AW's chest but then VERY slowly pointed at AW who was sprawled out on the floor.

When they made the call then showed the replay BWW went nuts. I would have liked to hear the announcers.

The announcers didn't say much of anything dogs...I forget who else was there with AW but they could have easily called a foul on them as they were reaching in....we didn't help ourselves much during the game with poor shooting, poor ft shooting, and poor rebounding....like I said in another thread the refs helped us by calling fouls since TU was shooting so bad

but they were PART OF THE GAME and so it is a topic that can fairly be discussed.

                                They were bad.......
even the TU fans know that the continuation call was bogus, but the calls consistently favored TU the whole game.
Hey...it happens on the road, so we should have adjusted and compensated.
Slo-mo replay consistently showed elbows, forearms, and hip checks against BU that were NOT called, but ticky tack and minimal contact, and even the TU guy's elbow into Andrew Warren's jaw, were called as fouls against BU.
