  • Tulsa weather

Well the weather is suppose to be wild and wacky in Tulsa monday afternoon/evening. Tornadic supercells are expected out in front of a cold front. It's already starting near OKC right now but will die down overnight and start back up tomorrow evening. And then for those traveling back tomorrow night, this cold front is suppose to form a strong squall line with damaging winds about 9-10pmish that will go thru the path back to Peoria. Areas west of OKC is getting brief tornados and baseball size hail right now. I would park in a parking deck if you can tomorrow lol. Anyways, if your in the mood for something to listen to right now and if you want to listen tomorrow, the links below is to the OKC storm spotters and Tulsa area storm spotters. The OKC spotters are active right now...

I'm a meteorologist here in Tulsa. It could be bad here tomorrow, but I'm not as excited about the setup as I was a couple days ago. I'll know more in the morning.

No one's parking in a parking deck near the arena...there are none.

Tulsa Brave we are coming up from OKC tomorrow so let us know what your predictions are for tomorrow afternoon. Sitting here right now and listening to "Gary" tell us what is going on in OKC. Battening down the hatches here in OKC.

Edmond, storms are somewhat over now in OKC area but take a listen, in the future, to that mms link in my first post. It's the OKC area storm spotters that tell ya exactly what is happening in the storm and where. They have about 10-15 spotters that go in strategic locations to watch storms from all angles. You'll know about it 4-5 minutes before the weather man does on TV. Really helpful.

I am taking the fan bus from Peoria later this morning. I have my laptop and broadband card ready, and II'll let everyone know how the weather is on the way down. As long as the bus doesn't get blown off the highway, we'll be OK.

Not so true in Oklahoma...all the TV stations have their own spotters/chasers, and if there's any threat of tornadic activity, they are live on the air, so the viewers see it as it's happening.

Edmond Brave - The cold front is coming in faster than it looked yesterday. Therefore, by mid-afternoon any threat of tornadic storms should be over along the I-44 corridor from OKC to TUL. There still may be storms behind the front late thia afternoon in that area, but they shouldn't be tornadic. The main tornadic threat late afternoon/early evening now looks to be to the east of Tulsa.

I'm sure Tulsa Brave will keep us up to date, but here is the U.S. Weather Service's site:

                Tulsa weather hour by hour.

Hey, Tulsa Brave, how did you land such a cushy job where you can be wrong 50% of the time. j/k

Haha...I joke that we're not wrong as often as baseball players where getting a hit 30% of the time is good. And we don't get paid nearly as much as they do!

Just a little correction...that's the weather channel site...the NWS Tulsa site is http://www.srh.noaa.gov/tsa

I work for them, so of course I think we're more accurate...of course, I'm also a bit biased...

I will take the under for 71 degrees (from the weather channel link) at the 7 pm game time...

A little bit of weatherman trivia for ya, Tulsa Brave. Did you know that WGN's weatherman Tom Skilling is the brother of Jeff Skilling? Of course, Jeff Skilling is the former CEO of Enron and is now serving a 24 year prison term for his part in its collapse.

I'm full of useless trivia. And others say I'm just full of it.

No I didn't realize that! But I grew up watching and loving Tom Skilling. I still think he's one of the best, if not the best, meteorologist around.

This topic is right up my alley! I'm a storm spotter in the Chicago area, though the network here is a bit more loosely based. Anyone can just go to a spotter class and receive a certificate. Then they can report anything they see as the storm is moving through. In other words, I'm not part of any ham radio groups or any real formal type of spotter group, just a certified spotter who can report anything seen at any time in any location.

And speaking of Skilling, he holds his annual severe weather seminar at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois each spring. I will be attending it this Saturday as it is open to the general public for no charge. One of the speakers he has every year is Dr. Joe Schaefer from the Storm Prediction Center. But this is definately a hobby of mine.

So, my guess is that everything that passes east of Tulsa will head toward us tonight, though maybe not as big a tornado threat here. As long as it's out of Tulsa by the time the game starts tonight so we don't have a repeat of the Atlanta Georgia Dome situation, then everything will be fine!

Be careful on the way down gang, currently have a few tornado warnings posted in SW MO and in the road path to Tulsa. Also it's a moderate risk for severe storms in Tulsa area for this afternoon/evening. It's gonna be nasty out there.

The main threat will be over in Tulsa by around 2 pm. The cold front is charging hard and is less than 50 miles from here now. Main tornado threat will be east of here late in the day. So the game should be fine with no Georgia Dome repeats here. It's warm now, but it'll be a lot chillier by game time.
