  • Sam Singh

We have talked and analysised about on the players but Sam.

In the Virginia game Sam went for a rebound and was under cut and hit the floor hard! My first thought was I hope he's not hurt again!! He did get up and after a time out, made both free throws. He then left the game but did play again later and I think (or it appeared he is OK). This kid has had two major injuries in his first two yr.s and last yr. he gave what he had but was playing hurt. This year hes in the best shape of his 4 yrs. at BU.

Sam is a good player, that I fell we need him back next yr. I think he should of played more this yr. and if he comes back will make a big impack. And I'm not talking as just a player but as a team leader. I think he could be what we missed this yr. with a leader that will get in the face of other players (when needed) and that the players look to guide them. He is a team player and is always the first to meet the players as they come off the floor(good or bad).

As a player he's a big body that knows the system, he doe's not make meny mistakes, can push people out of the paint, sets the most devastating sreens (just ask a couple of the Virginia players) can roll to the hoop, can shoot free throws, fears no one and gives 100% each time out!

With AT having no experience, under weight/underdeveloped and the ? marks about DC's game/heart and RA is not our answer to the 5 spot! I think BU makes a BIG mistake if SAM isn't here next yr!

What do you think about this for next yr.
    Starters 1 = SM, 2 = AW, 3 = TW, 4 = AT, 5 = SS or DC
CR DD DD,RT RT,RA,WE AT, RA

I like Sam Singh, but I don't think I've heard anything about him not playing with us next year. If thats what you meant...

Devastating screens is dead on haha..I love watching it.

not starting but the "options" we may have for next season
    1 spot: Maniscalco, McCain, TCS
2 spot: Warren, Dodie Dunson, Chris Roberts; possible recruits: AB, Mike Burwell
3 spot: Wilson; possible recruit: Larry Anderson
4 spot: Austin, Thompson (if he doesn't get to about 205lb), WE (also shooting the 3 haha), I can't really think of anyone else..
5 spot: if DC develops he's got this as a lock and if AT also develops he'll be sharing it, SS will put some good time in also when they want more than one big

Next year if we stay away from injuries we're going to have a lot of options on which type of offense AND defense to run. We've got plenty of guards and enough potential talent for forwards/centers. We could be a really dynamic team next year. With the possibility of two good big guys in DC and AT with SS and RA coming in. Have 2 pg's with SM & EM or 2 sg's at the same time with AW, DD, and AB/MB coming in.

I'm actually getting excited for next year just thinking about how deep of a team we could really be next season.....so many options. That is if everyone develops which is idealistic and probably won't happen, but you never know.

Sam played one of his best games against Virginia. He only played 8 minutes, but had 5 rebounds and 4 points. That's is great production.
His defense was very good, too.

The way I look at it for next year is the same way it has been for the last couple years: Guard oriented and 1 and sometimes 2 big men on the floor. I think depth chart should look more like this.

        PG - Maniscalco, McCain, TCS
SG - Dunson, Roberts, (Hopefully Beckham)
        SF - Warren
        PF - Wilson, Austin, Egolf
        C - Thompson, Singh, Collins

I think that Warren SHOULD be more of a 2 guard, but the way he has been used so far, and with the same amount of bigs as this year and with Warren's height and athleticism, I think Les will keep him as the SF, or in our system, the 3rd guard. I also don't think Collins is going to have a major impact next season and I think Collins, Thompson, Singh, and Austin will all share some time at the 5-spot. Hopefully one of them steps up.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

          Dunson can run the point.

Since you cannot have 13 starters on a roster, it is great when you get a really good team guy like Singh. When you think about his career in terms of healthy summers, Sing is just now finishing his Soph year. Development wise, next year will be his Jr year and usually there is a good improvement there.

In, I think, the last JL show, JL said "you do not need bigs when guards can get to the basket" (Hopefully the guards start finishing "layups" better)
I do not think there will be any major shift away from the "small" lineup, so bu's probably correct.(unless you get a 6-9 player developing similiar play to Warren or Wilson.)

I would be a little surprised to see Ryan Thorton not get a little time somewhere next season. Even sitting out a year, he has time to continue to develop his game and body and he also has a year of D 1 experience.

There will be a ton of competition all over the court for us next season.

I also look for a lot of improvement in all 3 of our juco's from this season. I really expect Austin and Collins to improve and still hold out some hope for Cole Scott but he will have a lot of that competition at the guard position.

I think Austin can improve the most, he has given us some good minutes in the second half of the season but I still see a lot of tenitiveness from him especially offensively. I think if he can develop his confidence he could be an extreme force. Of course Collins and if he can set his mind to improving he could be the biggest asset we would have next season.

It would be so much fun to see

              SM
              Wilson
              Warren
              Austin
              Collins

With a bench of Roberts, Singh, McCain, Thornton, Dunston, Egolf and Thompson. Talk about a bunch of parts.

There really isn't a difference between the 2-guard and the 3-guard in our system. All of our guards need to be able to handle the ball, shoot, and get to the hoop.

I think all you guys are correct on the JL small line up for again next year! He seems to have this thing for small. But I can tell you this JL will never win the MV or be higher than his one 4th place finish with a four guard line up! We will just lose games that we shouldn't because we will more often than not get our ************ kicked on the boards like we did this year! The other night (Virginia Game) was a great example of haveing some rebounding power and what it can do for you. That game was fun to watch and was won on the boards!! Virginia was the the 3rd highest rebounding team in the ACC and our bigs did them in. So enjoy that one!

compared to this year DC will have a major impact, in my opinion. SamS is one of my all time favorite Braves...he has worked so hard and made BU proud in all areas of his student life.....

                    SamM, EM
                    Warren, Roberts, Dunson
                    Wilson, RT, WE
                    Thompson, RA
                    Collins, SS

I just have a feeling that we are going to see more of the traditional line-up for us next season. I still think that over 50% of the time it'll be some 4 guard system with one big in there but if we send them to a camp over the summer and hit a gold mine...there's no way JL is turning away from an opportunity to dominate the paint on defense and on offense, and with the guards we have for next season as is...we can dominate from behind 3 and the dribble drive. I agree with the comment that with our system 2 and 3 are similar. Basically TW will do his thing and stand on the wing of the rim and look for an easy dunk, drive a little, or take the occasional 3. But overall AW IS our shooting guard for next season along with AB if he comes here, NOT Wilson there's just no comparison on the skill level of the shooting game between the two. Also they'll probably pair AW up with the opponents best scorer.

Andrew Warren will be this years JC
AB (if he comes) or DD will be this years Andrew Warren haha
and Theron Wilson will be Theron Wilson...which is great also

                        Hmmm Tcs

My gut feeling last year (you can check it) was that
Mr Wilson would be much better than advertised. My
gut feeling for next year is that TCS had a year when
everything was a stoplight. For him it was all yellow
and red. My gut says (ridicule me at the end of the
season) TCS will be our Hop Houston. Still can't play
smash-mouth defense but able to find his shot and
himself. Crouch will have told him what it takes
to be there because his skills are there. Tyrone,
there is fan in Idaho that believes you will find it.
Iowa folks are hard working and thrive on adversity.
Next year will be your proudest moment.

We have seen AW this year mature over the season from being a bit tenative to really being able to take over a game. I expect him to work on his body this summer and become a bit more of a player that can drive to the basket. With a bit more weight and muscle AW and TW will be interchangable and really a scarry pair to match up against. I wish we had a true 5 and maybe and I mean maybe AT will be able to step in and be that defensive presence we were missing this year from the 5. We are way guard talented next year that TW once again will be starting at the 4 and AW at the 3. If we are to play that way again next year with all the guards/SF coming I hope that we press from end to end. We should have plenty of depth to go hard all 40 minutes without too much of a drop off.

PG - SM/Dunson/EM SM will need to work on his explosiveness this summer - This will be a drop off from this year but SM can minimize this by running our O a bit more efficient. Dunson will be able to fill in well. -.5

SG - Dunson/TCS/Roberts I expect Dunson to start. This will be a drop off from this year. Hard to compete with JC's shooting skill. -1

SF - AW/TW/RT AW will be special. Another year he can't do anything but improve.+1

PF - TW/RA/WE TW would be a great 3 but we know JL will start TW at the 4. Same as the 3 but I see RA and WE stepping up for huge overall upgrade. +1

C - AT/DC/SS Here is where I agree with everyone BIGMAN CAMP PLEASE!!! If we get more production out of the 5 we will contend for the MVC title. We will miss Salley's moxy!!!!! We could be better offensively but probably not as good defensively. EVEN

Intangibles - We press more with our depth to keep it from being a 1/2 court game so the big men become less useful. Dunson becomes a stud at shooting guard and one of our bigs really suprises me.

We should be better but will have to play harder defensivley in order to score easy baskets. Teams will concentrate on AW first and than TW so someone else will have a chance to step up.
