That's kind of what I was getting at. For the people involved it's great, it's worthwhile and it's fun. To me the NIT now is being over glorified only because the CBI exists. I will say that there are some better teams in the NIT, but ultimately the prestige of winning the NIT does little if anything more than winning the CBI will do. If nobody remembers who won the NIT, how can it be much greater than winning the CBI. Play in the tourneys, use them to get better, have fun, what does it matter what the name of the tourney is?
