  • One of my favorite games

My memory is hazy so I might not be completely correct. But one of my favorite games was when Tulsa and Nolan Richardson came in with Paul Pressey and the boys to the fieldhouse against Anderson,Thirdkill,Reese and the rest and I seem to remeber it being a battle. I am not sure but maybe overtime.I was young and am not sure about the specifics. It may be because I was young but that seems like a time frame when the Valley had the most individual talent I can remember. Pressey, Carr, Levingston,Anderson,Thirdkill, Was Lewis Lloyd around then? I know Wichita had that 7 foot center that played in the pros and a good guard also.
The Wichita team was the most intimidating I ever saw when Carr and Levingston came in as Freshmen slaming it every other play.

Any way I would love to be able to schedule Tulsa again. The distance may make it difficult though.

Many of our fans would love to play all the Valley teams every year -- heck, some of them still wish we were in the Valley.

We managed to play Wichita State, Creighton, and Mo State over the years, but that even stopped when the wheels fell off for us a few years back.

Anyway, it's exciting to get a Valley throwback rematch. We have retro unis from the Nolan era we wear sometimes -- I hope they break them out (might be too much overload, though).

When you are still playing home games in APRIL it is all OVERLOAD!

I say bring on the NOLAN UNI'S! You just have to wear them in Peoria as well. If they are yellow it would work!

Good point. They are yellowish. I can't figure out how to easily post them, but if you look on here at the 2006 photos you'll find a gallery with them (you'll have to click "view other galleries" and look for the 06-07 basketball pictures). http://tulsahurricane.cstv.com/photo...port=m-baskbl&

I was at that game. Pressey's 25 ft'r (maybe) at the buzzer of regulation... crowd gasping... rimmed around once.... twice.... and out!

          The Fieldhouse erupted!

          We won in OT.

And then after the game, it was a Saturday matinee, people all over Main St going nuts.

          Wow!!!

That was the game I was referring to in the loudest crowds thread. It was amazing!

Tulsa and BU also played in a game in one of the first years of Carver on CBS. 83-84 possibly, they had guys like David Moss, Herb Suggs, Herb Johnson and the begining of the Rahilly Brothers, who would torment us a few years later in 85-86 in the conference tourney down in that old convention center.

This has always been a great rivalry, personally I really wanted Houston to win, but this 3 game set will be a great series and I hope it might rekindle a possible return to playing year in year out.

I believe the game lake Camolet is speaking of was in 79-80, as we beat them the next year by 7 in Peoria but Tulsa that year went on to win the NIT, as we would do in 81-82. As they would begin a 5 year run of NCAA appearances in that same 81-82 season.
