After only 1 season on his 5 year/$50 million contract, there is talk that the Knicks might buy out the remaining 4 years and get rid of Larry Brown. The Knicks are a mess. They just finished a terrible 23-59 season, maybe the worst season in Knicks history, despite the fact that the Knicks $125 million payroll is the largest payroll in NBA history, and is about $20 million more than the next highest team.
Larry Brown feuded with many of his players and often publically criticized the players. Many of the players, on the other hand, publically blamed the problems entirely on Brown. The Knicks management was even critical of Brown. It would be tough for Brown to return next season with most of the same roster returning. So I would not be surprised to see this happen. General Manager Isiah Thomas might become their coach next season, as that would save the Knicks from having to pay millions more for another coach, since Thomas is already under contract.
This is all good for the Bulls. They own the Knick's #1 draft choice this season, and they have the right to switch 1st round picks next year.
