  • If we win this thing...

I know this letting the cart in front of the horse, but we can do that on message boards!

If Bradley wins the CBI tournament, do we put up a banner similar to NIT Championships, Final Fours, and the Sweet 16 run?

    I would think so.

Or does this go up next to the Commissioner's Classic at Carver Arean? (granted we did not win the Commish Classic).

I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are, since there is no precedent for this tournament.

No. We put up a basketball similar to the one we have for the MVC Tournament championships that we've won. Perhaps in 10-20 years if/when the CBI becomes a prestigious postseason tournament we would do that, but right now I view the CBI kind of similar to our early season tournaments. We wouldn't have hung a banner for winning the Chicago Challenge, so I wouldn't hang one for the CBI.

My roommates and I were discussing this the other day. I think we kind of agreed that a banner should hang if and only if the tournament gains some prestige and recognition as a legitimate postseason tournament, so we're with you BB. The rafters of a division one basketball arena with a winning tradition should not be taken lightly.

I almost always agree with what BB has to say. It is just so interesting because no one has ever won it before, so no one knows how to treat it. But we can always go back and hang a banner if we want later on. I thought it was interesting that we hung an Elite 8 banner 50 years after making it. I guess a run at the Sweet 16 makes it happen. Although back then you were always in the sweet 16.

I say wait a couple years, then it will become clear whether displaying a CBI banner is a good idea.

I think a championship in this tournament could be viewed like a championship for the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, the O??™Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic and the Legends Classic.

Would a school hang a banner for any of those?

NIT banners mean something because, I believe, winning the NIT used to get teams #1 votes in the final, recognized mens basketball polls. I doubt we'd get any top25 votes for winning the CBI.
If we did not have that outstanting NIT history, and played and won our first NIT last year, I doubt we'd hang our first NIT banner among NCAA runner-ups.

I think another basketball would be most appropriate for the CBI.

These CBI games are more exciting to watch than the big dance has been this season. I think this tourney is here for good.

Not bad games, but the CBI is for the teams in the tourney. Not much different than the NIT though. The caliber is the same.
