Theron Wilson, Sam Singh, Tyrone Cole-Scott, David Collins and Rashad Austin will all leave after next season and open at least 5 more scholarships next year. The will be the largest senior class in a while.

We do not need to bank a scholarship from this year so we can add another recruit (a 6th recruit) next year. It would be better to recruit now to replace the people we lose in 2009.

I see no reason not to fill all the available scholarships this year, unless we hold one for the possibility of a transfer

Exactly. A four year guy right now, even if a project, is needed. There's no reason to bank this one. I'm not demanding that we land an immediate-impact guy. I want a 4 year guy that we can get into the system now and get him ready for 2009, 2010, and beyond.

I am not worried just yet.. needless to say, recruiting is very competitive.. guys are weighing their options and people at various schools are transferring which adds to the mix. Just dreaming out loud but I would really like to see a player here like Anderson or Twanny Beckham.

I agree - a 4 year player would be great to get if it is a good player. Don't just rule out JUCO's though. Don't forget that Theron Wilson was a late JUCO signee last year. That worked out very, very well for BU.

I say sign the best big guy freshman (6'9" or taller) we can land and red shirt him.

We have too many JUCO's already and we don't need an immediate-impact guy like we did last year. This scholarship needs to be of the 4-year variety.

I agree fully but not for the sole purpose of using a scholarship. One reason, I believe, that we have so many JC players could also be the fact that JL & staff are in on so many high end recruits that end up going other places. Because of this the level of kids that we may be able to get are usually taken so we go after the JC players more the some other schools do. Is this a bad thing? Yes and no-The yes is we miss out on some good recruits that other valley schools end up w/ but then the no is if we continue recruiting this way one of these times we are going to get that high level recruit and make all of this hard work pay off.

I think we should stop going for the blue chippers and start going for the Andrew Warren-types. We've done well with JUCO's, but I am tired of getting stuck in the position of having our recruiting class depending heavily on our spring recruits.

I would agree completely-we miss out on a lot of players that the Creighton's end up w/. I friend of mind that use to coach said he met DA one time and they were talking about recruits. DA told him that he never worries about how a player is rated or who is in on him but will he fit into my system or not.
I would say that is the #1 thing for allcoaches to look at.

I am not sure that it is essential to go and get someone to fill this scholarship. I would not hate to see us hold the scholarship for next season when we lose SS, TW TCS Austin and Collins.

I dont see the immediate need this season, unless we can use the scholarship for a 4 year player who is either to good to pass up or one who is coming with the understanding he redshirts.
You have a lot more confidence in Bradley's inside game than I do. Bradley only had one impact player on the inside this past season and he is graduating.

Bo Ryan is the same way. I'm not saying that JL isn't recruiting that way, and I don't necessarily believe that we're putting all of our eggs in baskets we never end up with. However, I am more than content landing unheralded 4 year players like Andrew Warren rather than going for 3 and 4 star recruits and striking out every time. Heck, Daniel Ruffin was an unheralded 4 year player (only other offer was UW-GB), and he turned out pretty darn good. I'm not saying we should scrape the bottom of the barrel, either. I just think that there are a lot of very good players out there that don't necessarily show up on these ratings sites' radar. For a nationally-known example, look no further than Stephen Curry of Davidson.

In general, recruiting PGs and SGs should not be a problem for JL. I think the postion that requires a longer-term development approach is recruiting the 4/5 spot. I'd like to see the staff recruit at least on big guy a year with the intent to red shirt them. Most big guys need more development time and having a system in place that red shirts a freshman big guy each year will pay large dividends down the road. Winning against big time teams outside the Valley requires BU to have productive big men.

I certainly agree but historically the summer between first year and second year is where a player improves physically and his game improves the most. I am having my fingers crossed that Austin, Egolf, Thompson and Collins all fall into the improved category.

I agree that 6 open rides for one class is to many, but I do believe our one ride left is a huge asset. With this asset we need to stay in with as big of recruits as we can get in with. If we lose out then we still have our asset and if it cant be used for a 4 year player this season, it can be moved to next recruiting class.

Lots of things can happen. But when it comes to recruiting, I do believe whole hardedly in JL.

Or it could be used as a ride for Thornton.

                              He really intrigues me.
