  • Illinois Wesleyan coaching position

A couple candidates have pulled out and according to the article, there are 2 candidates left that have interviewed.
Lawrence University head basketball coach John Tharp withdrew his name yesterday, and Wednesday, North Central coach Todd Raridon pulled out. That leaves Elmhurst assistant coach John Baines and Bloomington High School coach Ron Rose.

I thought Al Biancalana was interested? Apparently he has not interviewed and is not being considered.

I believe Ron Rose is originally from Morton (graduated from Morton High School), and I think he (assistant) coached for a while at Olivet Nazarene University under Ralph Hodge.

Maybe Al pulled out because the pay was not enough.

Coach Al didn't have any college head coaching experience.

The head coaching spot at Illinois Wesleyan became vacant in early April, and the search dragged on until mid-May before they hired Ron Rose.
There was some question in the press why the search for a new head coach there at IWU was taking so long, as a partial list of candidates was mentioned in the press.

I have learned that the search took so long for just one specific reason.
It was because a several week effort was being made by IWU to go after the one coach they wanted the most for the position.
They tried to get more to offer to sweeten the pot, but in the end, their top candidate declined because the present job he has pays much more than IWU could offer.
He would have been a great fit for IWU, being an alum and having lots of D-I experience, but it didn't come off.

I have learned from a virtually indisputable source that the search actually dragged on for just one specific reason.
It was because a several week effort was being made by IWU to go after the ONE GUY they wanted the most for the position.
They tried to get more to offer to sweeten the pot, but in the end, their top candidate declined because the present job he has pays nearly twice the maximum that IWU could offer.

                Coach Mo perhaps?
