  • Andrew Warren Gets T'ed Up

Andrew is such a great person as well as a great ball player, he surely would have been my pick as
"BU player most likely to complete his career without ever getting a technical".

But alas AW was T'ed up last night and I believe very, very unfairly.

For those of you who either didn't see it or couldn't figure out what happened...here's my take...
It happened right in front of me, and the ref who made the call (Gerry Pollard) was standing on the sidelines only about 15 feet from where I sat, and I even caught most of the verbal exchanges.

Andrew and the Cincy player, Larry Davis, were tussling for position well away from the basket, but most (maybe 75+ %) was Davis, with Warren simply trying to avoid being pushed all over the court.
Then the ref spotted the action, blew the whistle, and immediately signalled a double foul on Warren & Davis, and Andrew relaxed and stepped back.
Then a couple seconds after the whistle, the Cincy player, Davis, threw a hard forearm right to Warren's upper body - knocking Andrew back a couple steps.....completely unexpected and it appeared Andrew did absolutely nothing to provoke it and appeared quite surprised by it.
The ref then blew the whistle again and looked directly at Davis, signalled a "T", then went to the scorer's table with the info.
After a minute delay, the ref came back to award the inbounds pass, and only then did the 2-fouls go up on the overhead scoreboard and the announcement that both players had technicals...become known and both Andrew and Coach Les were shocked!!
Andrew pleaded with the ref but the ref could clearly be heard telling AW that it was a double foul plus a double technical (thus no FT shots.)
After a little explanation was then given to Coach Les as well, the play continued but I can assure you nobody on the BU side thought that call was remotely fair.....and the crowd responded similarly.

I think the whole thing was initiated by Davis who was a bit of a trash talker and hothead, and he should have been the only one T-ed up.

I watched the game on tape last night and you couldn't be more correct about the incident. After watching it again it is hard to believe that AW was called for the initial foul let a lone a technical foul.

Luckily it all worked out OK!

      AW is awesome!!!

That call was total garbage. I'll put an asterisk by it my career scorebook for AW.

Yeah the only thing I saw that could have been foul for Bradley was Collins pushing a guy as they all were walking off the court.

I think Collins needs to do more of that

Gary Pollard is the worst ref I've ever seen. Worse than highschool basketball refs.

Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

My take on the play was the exact same as yours. I didn't see any technical foul material until Davis threw the elbow, after which I didn't see Warren react in any manner that elicited a T...

How about MS holding himself back in a situation where he would have gotten T-ed up earlier in the year?

At first, it was a double foul and 1 technical on the UC player. Then about a minute later, (after the refs may have talked it over exchanging stories or looking at the monitor) the refs changed the call to a double foul and a double technical.

Even mild manned bert had a T or 2. Andrew will survive this outrageous occurrence.

Did anyone see Egolf nearly get his head taken off on a defensive rebound attempt at the end of the first half yesterday? It obvious from the upper bowl, I don't know how the refs missed it.

I thought it was a well-refed game though. They seemed consistent throughout the night. They were calling it close under the basket for both teams throughout the whole game (worked out in our favor).

Pollard's ineptitude is astounding... Earlier this season he made a questionable call, and then unnecessarily walked across the court and stood by the student section during the timeout.. Needless to say one of our fellow posters got a final warning. Wouldn't anyone else walk away?

I've gotten a warning or two in my time at Bradley... Not gotten thrown out though! : )

Pollard stood in front of Mark Scott after another one of his bad calls hoping he would say something to him; it is almost like he has ill feelings toward Bradley which is not fair to the players ; the original call on the Warren play was a double foul and a technical on the Cincy player for throwing an elbow at Warren; he changed the call at the scorers table which is what I would expect out of a lousy official.

He seems to want to cause problems and looks for any excuse to call a T. It is pathetic when an official intentionally stands in an area in an attempt to provoke a response so that he can flex his "muscles". For example, standing in front of the student section after a TERRIBLE call, and then as you said standing in front of Mark Scott after another bad call.

it would be like me wearing a cardinals jersey while officiating a cubs game and calling outrageous Strikes, just to get some attention.
