Scott Skiles a hoosier?

Skiles' name has been tossed about since the very day Sampson stepped down.
Here's a guy even predicting it WILL be Skiles that'll replace Sampson, on Feb 16, even BEFORE Sampson was fired!!

X's and O's wise, I think Skiles would be an outstanding college coach. However, Scott has gone on record before saying that he's an NBA coach and has expressed little interest in college coaching. I don't think he would enjoy the recruiting aspect of the job very much, although I think dealing with the college kids might be very refreshing compared to some of the prima donnas he's dealt with in the NBA.Onward and Upward!

Interesting that they would hire a coach who was fired from his last job,
knowing in essence that's what they did with Sampson.
Here is an article claiming Sampson "sapped the life out of Indiana"

although I am not so sure that maybe one certain player didn't also "use" Indiana just for his "one year need".

I know it's a really tough problem to have, but both teams who were in the NCAA Title game last year (Ohio State & Florida) have proven how hard it is to lose top players and still be able to make it back, and I think we'll see more of this same phenomenon.
Teams recruiting the one and done's will have 2nd thoughts, and I'll bet big time that K-State, USC, and even IU will be way down next year.
If they miss the NCAA then was it worth it to have have Gordon for a single year?
By contrast, Purdue, Baylor, Clemson, and others have recruited the next tier of great young players, who will also be back next year, so in the end are those teams better off for having missed the OJ's and EJ's?

I wouldn't worry about him being fired from the Bulls. It's not like he had recruiting violations. He just was feuding with players (who were also apparently feuding with management so it wasn't just his problem) and "underachieving" with all the "talent" on that team. Just look at all the all-stars they have like... that one guy and um... Remember MJ? That was awesome right?
I think that Skiles would be a top-tier college coach, esp at a high major like Indiana where he could get a lot of tallent and get ultimate control. IU will probably have to drive a dump-trunk full of money to his house to get him, but it's worth a shot. It could also show the NCAA that they're going after a clean guy.

I think that he would make a very good coach....recruiter?!?! not so sure. If he takes it, he better have some very good assistant coaches lined up that can recruit. Then again he would be going to Indiana, the name alone still sells itself. Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

I talked to an Indiana insider last night, and I was surprised to hear that his first choice would indeed be Scott Skiles. He didn't think it was likely, but did think the fact that his family would be so close might offset some of Skiles' reservations in getting into the college game (recruiting, 24/7/365 responsibility for players, etc.). It will be interesting to see this unfold.Onward and Upward!
