  • Steve Merfeld mentioned as possible candidate for James Madison University head coaching job

Bradley Assistant Coach Steve Merfeld is mentioned in several new articles as a potential candidate for the open head coaching job at James Madison University. There have been a number of big names surface who are interested. Coach Merfeld is well thought of in the East because of the success he had at Hampton before taking over at Evansville.--

Does this mean we are going to spend another off season looking for a new assistant coach? Some stability would be nice. But if he has a better head coaching offer, I can understand him taking it. Could a return to the bench be in the works for one CB? (pure speculation)

It would be unfortunate for BU if Merfeld took another job so quick... But, I'm sure that BU knew going in that he'd want to be a head coach again, and you can't keep a guy back who's just trying to get a promotion.

I think Merf is valued a lot. We would be insane not to value him, the guy has more coaching experience than the rest of our coaching staff combined. I am all for our assistants going on to be head coaches, but it would stink to lose our top assistant for the 2nd straight year. The program needs continuity - from both the players and coaches.

Not to quibble.....but isn't Little Bish the top assistant? I thought he was the associate head coach, where Merf is just an assistant coach. If titles mean anything.....

Bish has the title, but I think that's it. From what I have heard Merf is the true top assistant, and I believe his compensation from BU reflects that.
