  • Marcus Sikes

He will finally get to see what it is like playing at Bradley. I have no doubt he would have been a big contributor here. He hasn't done much this year for Cincy.

Why would he have done any better here then Cincy....? From what some posters from Ciny told us he just hasn't developed......

I really don't know if he would have done that well with your team. He likes to stay on the perimeter and shoot from behind the arc. You already have a bunch of good perimeter players. He doesn't have the body or the skills to be a true post player. He comes off the bench and sometimes adds some spark, but he really just isn't as good as we thought he would be.

BU went hard after him.....many were upset when he went elsewhere. As we say here at BU...youjusneverknow.

Here is what Cronin said about him earlier this season.

"He's become a role player," Mick Cronin said, "which is probably what his talent dictates playing at the highest level in the Big East. Marcus struggles shooting the ball and he doesn't have great athleticism. "He's tried to help us in any way he can, which I think embodies our team's attitude this year, but there's obviously a lesser role for him. There's a reason why we're better. It's because we're not playing a 6' 6" guy (actually Sikes is listed at 6' 8") at center who's not very athletic. We're using him in the role he needs to be in coming off the bench."

Aside from him hanging out on the perimeter, he sounds a lot like our current center Matt Salley - A role player type.

Since he doesn't play much for Cincy, maybe we can work out some sort of a swap like when we played shirts & skins back in gym class. We'll take Marcus Sikes, and Cincinnati can have an extra cooler of Gatorade.

I agree. We put more time into him than almost any other recruit up to that point. With all due respect to Matt Salley, Marcus Sikes was Jim's first choice for a reason. Last year and this year might have been different if Sikes had come to BU and developed into the player Jim thought he would be.

Typical jr. college inside recruit that never reached his potential ; it is so much harder for jr. college players that have not been coached well to succeed in d-1 basketball because it is much more of a physical game then what they are use to playing, his coach does not have good things to say about him which makes you wonder why he even recruited him.

He was their last scholarship that year I believe, and they had already recruited over him before they want after him, and recruited over him after that. I think it was more a poor decision on Sikes' part in taking the 'biggest' offer but not necessarily the 'best' offer. Unfortunately, it's a scenario BU (and other mids) sees a lot with kids they recruit. BU clearly offered immediate playing time, perhaps even a 'starring' role in a program on the rise. Cincinnati offered an overcrowded frontcourt and a coaching transition. I guess the lure of the Big East, no matter how downtrodden the program, was just too much to resist.

He recruited him because he needed to get the best available players he could who would come to a school with a new coach and 2 returning scholarship players. Sikes saw the potential for lots of playing time. Cronin saw a player who could see the floor and slow the bleeding while he was able to actually recruit quality basketball players. Cronin was hired in April and had to field nearly an entire team as no recruiting had been done in nearly 9 months. He recruited whatever he could get in the short time he had.
