  • Bradley to play in suburban Chicago tournament

As has been mentioned, there is a chance Bradley could play in the new Thanksgiving tournament in suburban Hoffman Estates. The first 2 games would be played at campus sites, and Bradley would play their first 2 games in Carver arena Nov. 19 and 21. The final 2 games would be played at the new Sears Centre arena. The tournament also includes Illinois. There is a chance Bradley could play Illinois, but it sounds like it would be only if both teams reach the final of the 8 team tournament.

Could this tournament evolve into the long awaited matchup of all 12 Illinois in-state D-I teams?

I would have liked to see Bradley get a chance at Illinois this past year when they had Cellus and POB. Next year Bradley will be rebuilding, as will Illinois somewhat. It just doesn't have the appeal of playing them with last year's team.

I would expect it will be wildly successful, and they will have to move it to the United Center. Remember how hard the tickets are to get when Illinois plays at the UC!

Nonetheless, I think it's great for Bradley. And kudos to Bruce Weber. Illinois would never have agreed to this kind of intrastate matchups before he got there.

But I predict that if Illinois gets bumped by Bradley or a Northern Illinois or other state school, they will suddenly not be able to find time for the tournament in subsequent years after that.

Mississippi St is in this. They were 15-15 last year, RPI of 153 (SOS 53).

They look like they were pretty young last year. Honors at the end of the season: All-SEC Soph. F Charles Rhodes; Jamont Gordon, a unanimous Freshman All-SEC selection, was also selected to Rivals.com 1st-Team Freshman All-American and to the 25-man CollegeInsider.com Freshmen All-America Team.

Games of note last season: lost to NW'rn St by 1 in OT, beat Geo Mason by 2, beat Arkansas by 2, and beat Alabama by 13.

It sounds like a good tournament for Bradley to be in regardless of the opponents. Lots of BU alums and potential recruits in that area.

That's a huge bonus to playing in this tourney as well. Hopefully it works out where we'd meet, and then beat, U of I in the final.

And with no other games scheduled in the Chicagoland area next year (home games against DePaul and Loyola), it will be the only opportunity for BU to be seen in Chicago.

An Illinois-BU title game would sell the place out, and surely create a very 'hostile and abusive' environment in Hoffman Estates. I don't know if the NCAA will allow this.

An 11,000 seat arena in Chicago will be easy for Illinois to sell out no matter who is playing them, IMO.

Ya you're right, I just hope that the tickets are allotted fairly, and I don't mean by some guy who comes out and says each school get the same # of tickets. We would be at a huge disadvantage if the area turns out to be like the Big-10 tourney, we mide as well play in Champaign.
