Could BU consider a r/s for Egolf as a Soph. We should have last year (easy to say in hindsight) but we could get that year back. Let him develop strength and maturity wise and roll him out after that.

Its a LONG SHOT but just thought I'd throw it out for discussion.

McCain comes to mind also. I think of JJ, also from the small school circuit, that seemed a year or two behind in development before he was a solid contributor. Who on here wouldn't have loved to have JJ around another year?

    Again..just thinking outloud.

WE would essentially have 2 off seasons in a row if he R/S'd next year. I'm not sure he gets enough positives out of it to outweigh the negatives. It would be great from a conditioning standpoint.

AT redshirted because he had measurable parts of his game that needed to improve to become sucessful in his position (footwork) The confidence and team play adjustment that small school guys often need, I'm not sure if those qualities are best developed in a redshirt year.

I am all for a redshirt if there are quantifiable improvements that need to be made, and the time to make those improvements cannot fit with a normal game prep routine.

Just because you redshirt does not guarantee a full 4 years. Ruff missed a lot this year with injury...

I really like Egolf's combination of size and athleticism...but the coaching staff really needs to figure out what type of player they are going to develop him as. This year he looked like a big guy that had absolutely no post skills to speak of, and as a result, tried to be a "Euro" big guy that floated around the perimeter and tried to shoot jump shots...
Problem with that is that he was a step too slow to try and defend anyone out on the permieter...and obviously he didn't have any success shooting outside of 10 feet.
So hopefully in the offseason he has been given some sort of direction from the coaching staff as to where they see him playing over the next 3 years...and he will either be bulking up and developing post moves to play as a 4/5 with his back to the basket or he'll need to be improving his quickness and working on his outside shot and ballhandling skills if they want to use him as a 3/4 that plays out on the floor.
I think he could be successful in the Valley in either role...He just has a lot of work to do in the offseason to get to the point where he can be an asset next year and beyond.

I agree with all you have said but he will never be a 3. He is a 4 and hopefully someone good will work with this kid in the off season. If this happens, I think next year will still be a learning year but the two after that should be great ones.

Yeah, I don't ever envision him being a true 3...I was just listing it like that to relate it to the way that we run our offense (our 4 plays out on the perimeter quite a bit...like a 3 in other offenses...)...

Will has gained a lot of weight and made progress in a number of areas. People who have seen him in practices say he can be the best player on the floor at times. He is a very good shooter, though he didn't show it in the games he played. But that is common for freshmen. He will not redshirt next year, BU will need him and he will be a key contributor next year. He's an amazingly skilled big man, and fans will be pleasantly surprised next year.

A 4 who plays on the perimeter is exactly where I see Egolf's game in our system. I agree with Da Coach that Egolf has a nice shot. I havent seen him in practice, but I watched Egolf during pre-game warmups and you can tell that the shot is there.

I agree. I do not see EM getting red shirted next season. I think we need to and are going to throw him into the mix as soon as possible to see how he handles the competition and the pressure, and I think he'll handle it fine and be a big contributor next season. As for WE he could be huge next year. If he becomes our 4 man that has a perimeter shot...that would be a major asset for us, and we could do some great things.

I'm really up in the air about next season...it could honestly go either way. It just depends on how all of these recruits we got this season develop. I'm looking forward to Anthony Thompson especially. And I can't wait to see how a less than ideal season will motivate TW in the off-season to improve and come back in a big way for us next season. Really could go either way next year, let's hope they all put an extreme amount of effort into basketball this off-season.

I think you just hit on the nose! We should move our 4 inside, get some rebounds, put backs and increase the shooting % with shorter closer and sure shots. Then we may win and move out of the middle of the pack.
What to think, JL would go for this?
