Missouri State University has made a change its men’s basketball coach.

After nine years, Coach Barry Hinson and university officials have “reached an understanding” that the program needs to go in a different direction. Missouri State Director of Athletics Bill Rowe made the announcement at a news conference today (Sunday, March 9) in Hammons Student Center. “We have talked with Coach Hinson in recent weeks,” said Rowe, “and it has become apparent to all of us that it is time for a change. We very much appreciate everything Coach Hinson, his family, staff and his players have done for Missouri State and the Springfield community. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

I wonder if one of our assistant coaches would move on to a better opportunity and we could hire Barry as defensive coodinator? Just a thought not a slam to any of our assistants. Just a thought starter for next year!!

That's too bad because Barry was one of my favorite Valley coaches. It's not his fault his teams got shafted by the committee, and his teams always played above expectations when it became tournament time.

This line was interesting--

He said he plans to coach next season and already has been contacted by a school about doing so.
He declined to reveal the school or if it involves being a head coach or top assistant.

I have heard he has been offered an assistant job at another school, possibly by someone he has worked with in the past. But as more head coaching jobs open up, there may be other opportunities that materialize, so I would expect him to wait a while to decide..

I don't think Sutton or Weber make any sense there.

Yeah, why would Weber leave Illinois to coach Missouri State? Sutton is possible just because of his past, and I don't see too many big names hiring a guy with that much baggage, but I could see a school like Missouri State taking a chance with him.

I hear Kelvin needs a job........
