  • Robert Eppinger changes his mind - reopens recruitment

I just read an article about why this kid was suspended -- he was involved in a fight at school. It was not gang or drug related and says he is basically a good kid (heck, he even has a father who's still in the picture). It seems as if they were making an example with him and the others involved.

It also says he is a 3-star recruit (he sounds like a horse --6'7''. 240+lb PF) and is originally from Peoria.

It would be nice to have him "come home"

Robert Eppinger has been discussed before many times on this board. He did start in high school here in Peoria, and would have been on the same team as Shaun Livingston had he not moved to Rockford.
Here is a little bit more on him.

And as for Eppinger's decision to reopen his recruitment, a little event from just a week ago is likely the reason....

Any chance he would consider Bradley should we free up a scholarship?

It might not matter anyway, as I am hearing some interesting things about Eppinger, and that Robert already has a couple destinations in mind.

A source tells me that Jerry Wainwirght has told one of his freshmen, Rashad Woods (6-6 SG from Texas) that he won't be playing, and Woods will now transfer.
Woods only played in 8 games and only a minute or so in each game, getting a grand total of only 5 shots in the season.

Wainwright may consider using the scolarship to recruit Eppinger, and I expect to see Robert visit DePaul within a few days. That doesn't mean Eppinger is a lock at DePaul, but Wainwright certainly needs someone who can score.

I would love to see Eppinger at least get a call from the BU coaching staff to see if he's interested.
If the kid was willing to go to Fresno until they had sanctions, then surely he'd see Bradley as a step up from there.

I am fairly certain that Eppinger wasn't just suspended from his Rockford High School. He was expelled. Thus forcing him to transfer to Minnesota.

I don't think he is a bad kid. Just made 1 wrong decision. As most kids do.

You are right cpacmel, he was expelled, but not by the coach or the school, but by the school board at one of their meetings when they were asked to review the specifics of the incident where Eppinger and at least one of his teammates went during school hours to another school in Rockford and reportedly beat up another student.

A source I have talked to says Eppinger is looking at a couple prep schools and is considering going the route of Justin Dentmon and Josh Tabb, then reopening his recruitment.

Any update on Eppinger? I gotta believe JL is interested in him. I think he would fit it nicely at BU in 2007.

Robert Eppinger, who was originally raised in Peoria, attended high school in Rockford, was one of the top prep players in the class of 2006, was recruited by most of the Illinois Div I schools, got expelled from Rockford Jefferson high school for his part in a fight, played his senior season at Minneapolis Patrick Henry high school, and then committed to Fresno State, then renegged and reopened his recruitment, has now decided to attend junior college at Indian Hills CC, Ottumwa, Iowa.
