Yesterday was fun watching all the upsets in conference tournaments. There are more "bubble teams" now than it seems we have had in years. I don't know what that means for ISU, though I still think their RPI will get them in. And it will be fun to watch Gary Williams explode when he doesn't get in!

Here are some of the upsets from yesterday:
Florida State over Wake Forest (technically an upset, since Wake was seeded higher than FSU, but in reality FSU is a better team).
West Virginia over UConn
Tulsa over UAB
Colorado over Baylor
UTEP over Houston
Pitt over Louisville
Alabama over Florida
Charlotte over UMass
BC over Maryland (Maryland blew a big early lead. Makes me so sad)

Maryland is now RPI 82, they were 8-9 against teams in their league, and
have lost 6 of their last eight, and one-and-done in their tourney.
They don't even pretend they belong in the NCAA, and there will be no meltdown when they miss the NCAA field this time since they know they don't belong.

If he had only played a little defense.....
New Mexico coach Alford still thinks they deserve an at large bid, despite a 57 RPI and a ridiculously soft 149 SOS (which would have placed him way behind even the last team in the Valley!) and an early exit in their tourney.
If he thinks he deserves one then they'll have to give the Mountain West 3 bids!


Also, I checked the box score of the UNLV game, and ex-Yuba star Mareceo Rutledge got in the game for a grand total of 3 minutes.
In the end, he played considerably less at UNLV than Tyrone Cole Scott did for BU, and about as much as Austin did.
Too bad for MR, he really is a talented SG, and deserves to play more.

UNLV plays tonight (at 11PM Central) against Utah, but they have the great fortune of having the game at the Thomas and Mack center,
so it's a home game for them.

I don't think I can ever recall a day were so many bubble teams lost! I think ISU is in pretty good shape for the NCAA's now, though we will wait and see what happens.

With an 82 RPI, Maryland is on the bubble for even the NIT! Hey, why doesn't the CBI pair them up with Bradley for a first round game at Carver Arena next Tuesday? That would REALLY tick Gary Williams off!

ISU is really in trouble now. Temple won the A-10 tournament today over St. Joe's. That will likely give the A-10 at least 3 bids.

Worse yet for ISU, Georgia just swept their "doubleheader" today! They just beat Mississippi St 64-60.

I still think ISU is in for now. But if Illinois and/or Georgia wins, that could be the fatal blow for ISU, unless someone from a BCS conference is eliminated instead. This will be a LONG night for the Redbirds!

I would be royally pissed if I was ISU. Several of these ranked & teams that are locked for the big dance have been half a&sing it in there conference tourneys. We would be crying foul if that happened to Bradley. Duke, TN, Purdue, Indiana, MS State, Kentucky and a slew of others. I mean how does GA, who has only won 4 SEC games the whole season, go into the tourney and win 3 SEC games in 2 days. Then you have Illinois who only won 5 Big 10 games and have won 3 Big 10 games in 3 days. Just doesn't make sense. I'm ready for the big dance to start to watch some real basketball being played.

There are nine sites that I've been tracking and all have been updated through yesterday's games.

Three have them "IN". (USA Today, CNNsi, NIT-ology)

Three have them as a "12". (FOX, CBS, ESPN Bracketology)

Also, Drake's stock seems to be rising as four of the five sites that show all seeds have Drake as a #4.

It is goig to be real close. I am now afraid that the clear-cut delineation between Drake and ISU will give the committee a place to draw the line and leave ISU out now that some bubble teams have enhanced their stock. If either Georgia or Illinois win today, which I don't think will happen, there will be no way they get a bid. ISU fans need to spike someone's orange juice in either Atlanta or Indy today ( just a metaphor that BU fans are familiar with).

Ouch! Someone before had posted to watch out for Lunardi's final update. If he has the "inside info" that people thinks he has, then there is a strong indication that he knows that ISU would be out. That could be the only possible explanation as he has had ISU in all week. Illinois did not even win today, and Georgia is in the process of squandering their game (though they still lead by 3 at this time).

This does not bode too well for the Redbirds, but I'll believe when I see them out.
