  • Well the MVC has officially ...

done absolutely everything it could to provide the selection committee with a case that we only should get one bid...

The combination of Drake winning it all, the bubblelicious Creighton, Bradley and SIU teams choking out early, and ISU getting trounced on national TV doesn't bode well for the Valley.

Overall, ISU should likely still make it ... but if you're an MVC fan, this couldn't have turned out any worse for the conference as a whole...

The only bright note is that Drake should get a 4 (watch em get a 5) seed now with their convincing win.

    CONGRATS DRAKE!
    Go Braves!

I was about to start a thread like this myself.

MVC= 1 bid to the NCAA tournament.
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I'm still calling ISU a 80% favorite to make it.

Man, the only thing that could've hurt them was a blowout loss. And there they went.

So........Drake has made two big statements in national TV games. Real Time RPI has got them at #13. They SHOULD get a 4 seed.
I would bet my house they get a 5. And a tough draw at that. Anyone agree?

Have to disagree with the 80% chance. ISU's strength of schedule comes in at 82. With the 30 point loss today on national tv and the sos rank, the committee will hammer them.imo

Relax everyone! ISU still has a 90% chance (down from 97% before this game ) to get in. They certainly did not do themselves any favors today, but if the committee knows what they are doing, they will look at the WHOLE body of work, and not overemphasize one real bad game. Hopefully we'll see few upsets. If this scenerio occurs, ISU will be fine.

I'm waiting for Drake to get a 7,8,9, or 10 seed.

Last year the selection committee inexplicably matched #13 Nevada vs. #23 Creighton in the first round as a 7 vs. 10 game.

              How a 13 translates to a 7-seed, and 23 to a 10-seed is beyond comprehension.

Until we realize what's going on here... They are mid-majors that would knock off the BCS schools so why not let them pick eachother off.

              What a ****************ing joke.

Similarly Butler was matched with ODU, and Southern Illinois with Holy Cross.

ISU might get in...but looking at their resume, I can't figure out why they would have much support in the selection committee room.

                They are:
0-5 vs. RPI top 50 teams. Bad.
6-1 vs. RPI 51-100 teams. Good.

                Quality wins??:
Creighton, SIU, Wright State. Not very impressive...none of those teams will even be mentioned when talking about NCAA bids.

                Bad losses:
UNI (RPI 123), Indiana State (RPI 124), Eastern Michigan (RPI 237)

9-3 in their last 12 games...pretty good. But when one of those losses just occurred on national TV by 30 to a Valley team, that doesn't help.

They will probably get in...simply because they were clearly the second best team in what has traditionally been a multi-bid conference...but their resume, in and of itself, is not all that impressive...and it won't be too difficult to shoot holes in their chances by pulling the whole "teams get bids into the NCAA Tournament, not conferences" card.

If they make it in, they will be one of the last teams in...

Yes, the committee will look at their whole body of work...and unfortunately for ISU, their whole body of work is pretty underwhelming.

I agree.. ISU's best non conference wins were against Cincinnati (112 rpi) and Wright State (83 rpi).

13-5 in the #8 conference in the country and a win at SIU (the toughest place to win in the Valley) are not strong points? I think they get in based just on those two facts. And unlike MSU the last two years, ISU finished a very solid second. So I think there is room for them even if they are expected to be a quick out in the tournament.

If you think those points should definitely get ISU in then the NCAA tournament will have to expand to include more teams. ISU finished a solid second because there were only two serious NCAA contenders during the season. In the past couple there there have been four to six.

Exactly. Plus ISU's loss at Eastern Michigan(237 rpi) will come back to haunt them on selection Sunday.

But they also finished second by beating a lot of decent teams and few real bad ones. In other words, it's harder to get through our conference than it is others. I think that has to be taken into consideration, no matter what the "teams get bids, conferences don't" crowd says.

Are you telling me those BCS bubble teams that always get in ahead of us don't have bad losses like ISU's? Come on! I'm tired of .500 BCS teams with the same type of bad losses getting in ahead of Valley teams that did well the entire year. Hopefully the committee feels the same way and doesn't keep a team out because of a fluky early season loss like that!
