I was totally wrong on my expectations for the new player this year. Here is an admission of what I expected and how far off.
Theron Wilson- Didn't see him fitting our style. Heard he was a poor outside shooter/slasher. I thought he may be 10nth man at best. He was rock solid all year long. Had a awesome year and played with heart. He was also a good outside shooter.
Tyrone Cole-Scott- I thought he would either start or be sixth man. He was supposed to be quick and a scorer. He was nothing like I was expecting. He was quick, but never got his shot to fall this year and never finished on drives. He showed heart, but just couldn't get things to work for him. I thought he would be the new Will Franklin and I think we missed someone who could create their own shot this year.
Will Egolf- I thought he would be a contributor early. I thought he could start late in the year. This one was totally my fault. I listened to people talking of pro potential and comparing him to Dirk Novitski. He played fairly well early then looked totally afraid to make mistakes and never could get his shot to fall. I should have realized coming from Alaska to division one would be a huge adjustment. I still have high hopes for him. That is why I hope we go with more HS players in the future.
Rashad Austin- I thought he would be a starter. Solid on defense and rebounding. I was baffled why he wasn't playing early and still am. He improved as the season went on. I think he will help next year. Not as far off as it would seem.
David Collins- I thought he had a chance to start, but would probably be about seventh man.
He was lost all year. Showed his athleticism early in the year. I only expected rebounding and defense from him. He gave the opposite. Could shoot ok No D or rebounding. I don't expect us to get anything out of him in his career.
Sam Maniscalco- I thought he would be steady. Get maybe 5 minutes a game as backup. Be ready for when DR leaves. He was also rock solid when we needed him. Much better than I expected as a Freshman. More like what I expected from him as a Junior. I really like his toughness. The only concern I have is he's not real quick and sometimes people can drive around him on D. I think if we have a athletic guard paired with him in the backcourt it would help.
AT- Redshirt is what I expected. RS. I hear good things about him,but I'm a little worried because I heard great things about Will Egolf in the off season also.
