I watched him play today and he was absolutely amazing on O and D.
How does a guy go from playing 7 minutes a game to being the POY in the conference? As good as Ruffin is Emmenecker is the best point guard in the league this year. Where did it come from? He scored 4 points a game in highschool! His career high before this year was 4 points and 4 assists!

How do you get that good over one summer?

Side note: Josh Young is really really good, he is going to be a force in the Valley the next two years.

My guess is that while sitting out for all those minutes, emmenecker learned some of the game and how to utilize his hard-working attitude and work effort?

I agree about Emmenecker. It wasn't just against Bradley that he was able to mystify defenses and get to the basket for layups and easy dish-offs. He did it against Indiana State and against Creighton all game long.

I am sure Coach Davis (Tom and Keno) deserve a bit of credit for developing this kid, but they didn't recruit him, and neither did anyone else. He and Cox are amazing stories of kids who walked on at a school like Drake that didn't have much talent, so they were able to actually get some playing time, and developed into pretty good players.

Some will disagree, but I think the guy reminds me of Roger Phegley.
Phegley was a 2-guard, but he came out of high school unheralded, walked on, and used his less than stellar athleticism but outstanding court sense and intelligence to parlay himself into a great MVC player with pro potential.
Anyone who ever saw Phegley play knows what I am talking about, and how he could always, and I mean always outsmart everyone else on the court, sometimes even making them look silly with his tricky defense and offensive moves.
