  • Kirk Wessler

I'm done with him. I've complained to him publicly and privately about his writing, and no one is going to get anywhere with him as long as he keeps denying his Les bias. KW would look at today's article and say that he never criticized Les outright, but it is obvious to anyone reading that there were several passive aggressive jabs in that article, and that is what makes people want to side with Les. There are ways to criticize that are not personal and biting, KW is out to stick Les with every needle he has.

BU goes to St. Louis and plays poorly for a good stretch of the game and loses. As soon as that game wrapped, I'm sure KW was licking his chops writing his axe piece. If BU would have won the game, I guarantee you there would have been no article.

    My opinion.

Since much of the column references what has been happening during the whole season, it appears he had this one written already
and was just waiting for a bad game to happen so he could print it.
Hey, we know BU played bad, no need to gloat and rub it in. Predictable, so what's next, a story on how the sun came up today?

My apology goes out to Dave Reynolds. I have always liked Dave and his articles. However....

I am done reading the PJStar.

Let's think about this logically here:

You all expected Wessler to write some sort of fluff piece about Bradley's effort in yet another loss in which they dug themselves a huge hole? You wanted him to write about how this has still been a good season, even with a 17-15 record? You wanted him to write about how Bradley battled through injuries to two of its three best players and dealt with suspensions to three players involving off-the-court issues? You really expected that after an end to a season where BU was picked to finish second in the league and was thought to be an NCAA tournament team when the season began? After a loss against a team that BU beat by 28 points a couple weeks ago? You write him to write a happy-go-lucky column about how BU still has an outside shot at a THIRD-TIER POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT?

No, no, no. The story of this game was BU's defense, or lack thereof. So KW writes about Bradley's porous defense yesterday and some people on here take offense to it because they think he hates Jim Les? That's hilarious. Here are some quotes from yesterday's game thread about the defense. Maybe these posters hate Jim Les too:

Shame on Wessler. How dare he actually criticize Bradley and its defensive effort ...

Wow...mark this day on the calander. I actually agree with Scouter.

I just read Wessler's article today and I have to say that I agree with most of the opinions that Wessler wrote. We are a team with a 17-15 record. Sure I want us to do better and I honestly think we will be better next season, but this year "was what it was..."

Unfortunately I have to agree, too. We did not live up to expectations this year. KW has a column to write. What??™s he suppose to do? Leave his column blank? The season was what it was. Hopefully we can regroup next year.

I think Wessler is right on. Some people just don't like to read the facts. BU has underperformed most of the year. As I said a few days ago, it's time for the promises to be met. Another disappointing trip to the tourney. As I look at the talent on some other teams I think some posters are kidding themselves if they think BU will be in the running for a title next year. I think BU will have another 4-5 game at best next year.

If we do not get or have a big man that can play D, block shots, score with his back to the basket and rebound we'll be in the same position next year. If we get two of them we can win the Valley. I'd like to see SM, AW, TW as the 1,2,3 position not the 1,3,4.

I'm not holding my breath for AT to be the miracle man and DC to suddenly turn it on but you never know.

I have absolutely no information on this so it is pure speculation on my part, but I have to ask. Is DC going to be back next year?

I don't agree, we lose a close, tough game away from home to a team that is 21-9, it isn't a total effort of tanking on defense, as portrayed.
it is a hit piece as so many others are.....yeah, yeah, tell me again how "that's his job"....then I guess it is my job to point out constantly and negatively he accomplishes his job.

Hey, Lewistown (31-0 before yesterday) averaged nearly 70 points per game in the regular season, then unfortunately got beat yesterday scoring only 45 points (52-45). So how about a hit piece on their offensive failures, and going one and done in the tourney?

I agree with many of the opinions I have read here over the last few years about Kirk Wessler. His column that called Jim Les a liar was outrageous and common decency screams for him to apologize. His columns about the Wilson and Cole Scott drinking incident lacked perspective and balance. That being said his column today was pretty much right on all points. If anything he was too easy on the offensive performance which was as horrid as the defense, in the first half in particular. Also true is that the defense has been poor most of the year. Very poor team and help defense. One play in particular summarized the defense all year. It was so bad I seemed to wipe some details out of my memory but it was in the second hald and a Creighton player drove down the lane, Matt Salley stepped up to stop him - good so far - but then Salley left the player WITH THE BALL ungaurded IN FRONT OF THE RIM and went back to his man. That type of thing happened all year. The game itself symbolized the entire season. Unbeliveably poor play followed by great play that teased us and raised our hopes only to have them dashed in the end.

I really do think that Kirk loves Bradley. However he clearly has an agenda with Jim Les and some of the administration. It will be difficult for him to have much credibility with Bradley fans until he admits his bias in regard to Les, KK, and others.

One thing about Kirk's column I don't agree with - Salley's basket that was waived off. That was a bad call for two reasons - 1 - that call wasn't made all game and 2 - it wasn't called until he shot the ball which would have been well after it would have occurred. It was a key call but with the way Bradley played for most of the game they can't blame the ref. And give Creighton some credit too. The interesting thing about Kirk's comments is that they contradict Salley's quote in Dave Reynold's article. Kirk says Salley thinks the ref got it right. Dave quotes Salley saying he felt the foul but expected to be shooting the bonus shot. Which reporter got it right?

It goes deeper than yesterday's game. There is a historical trend with his writing. I don't disagree with anyone's assessment of the defense yesterday or all season, but KW never says anything positive. He accentuates the negative and eliminates the positive in regards to Les. All I'm looking for is balance.

Well that would seem to be the obvious answer but I'm sure someone could enlighten us on the difference between news stories and columns or the use of quotes or how things really work in newsrooms. So we are probably wrong.
