You just beat me to it. Well, I did not see this one coming. What a shocker! Well, maybe this is not as shocking as it seems in that SIU still can't score points!
Also this means that SIU will take up another NIT/CBI spot, probably knocking Bradley right out of any postseason tourney!
Yes, that means that Creighton is now the only traditional Valley power that has a chance at the NCAA Tournament. Otherwise, we'll have new blood representing the Valley this year in Drake and ISU, with UNI now making a charge too!
Here is another thought- SIU loses Falker (12.7 ppg and 6.9 rpg) and Shaw (12.3 and 6.8 ), their top 2 scorers and rebounders. They do not return anyone who averages even 3 rebounds a game, and only 1 player who averages over 8 points per game, and that's Mullins at 10.7 ppg. And most of Mullins' and their other guards' points come on kick-outs from their 2 big men. They don't have anyone who creates shots well. Mullins is the only player who shoots over 33.1% from three.
They do have a good recruiting class, but I have to think they will struggle to score next year. Heck, they struggled to score this year with 3 All-MVC players.
and there are a lot of flamers on their boards, but I wouldn't count them out yet. They do have one thing BU does not have, they have fair local press reporting and they don't seem to get trashed by the local writers.
I wouldn't necessarily say that SIU has trouble scoring, I think they just have trouble running an offense when they have to stand around and stall for 15-20 seconds of the shot clock. Teams will rarely be blown out with that technique and if the other team happens to get hot and you miss a few shots in a row then your toast. SIU can score when they make a quick attack but when they slow it way down for most of the game, they just can't get in a rhythm.
