  • New Bradley Athletics drinking policy

Just posted in todays BU Scout. Any BU player caught drinking and driving will be suspended for 10% of the season. So if it happens at the beginning of the season that could be almost 10 games suspended, YIKES.

I haven't read the article, but are you sure it doesn't just mean 10% of the season meaning games? Cause that would be about 3-4 games.

I was on campus this morning to pick up my Fieldhouse chairs and happend to pick up a copy of The Scout.

Here is what a portion of the article from the March 7 The Scout states:

"The revised policy states student athletes drinking and driving will be suspended for 10 percent of regular season games, Executive Athletic Director Virnette House-Browning said.
She said a new rule stating athletes who are passengers of intoxicated drivers will be suspended for five percent of regular season games was also aded to the policy.
The rules went into effect after the alcohol-related arrest of of men's basketball players Theron Wilson and Tyrone Cole-Scott, House-Browning said."

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

This seems like a solid policy, and it's good to see Bradley taking a stand on it.

I like the idea that there is a set punishment taking all the guess work out!

Good. One set policy, no need to worry about making decisions on a case-by-case basis.

Right. No reason for anyone to ever have to think again.

Or do math. What team plays 100 games per season? lol. I love ppl on here.

Yes....I believe it amounts to three games for drinking and driving; one or two games for being a passenger of an intoxicated driver.

I'm not sure where the ten-game suspension came from. Of course, I'm still trying to figure out the total minutes played in last Saturday's game!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Excellent! Great to see Glasser is taking a tougher stand on this. Maybe we can actually get through a season without any more distractions (I'm not saying this is Les's fault, but it would make things a lot easier for him as well).

I didn't major in math at BU, but wouldn't a 10% suspension equaling nearly 10 games mean we played a basketball schedule of nearly 100 games? Last time I checked we were playing a schedule of around 30 games, not 100.

Didn't see your post TRIMAN. 100 games!

In all seriousness - How about no drinking during the season? I don't see why that would be so difficult.

After the no drinking policy is announced, we can have an assistant coach do nightly bed checks!
