  • Lance Stemler commits to Indiana

Lance decides to go to Indiana and play for new coach Kelvin Sampson.

Congratulations to Lance and his mom and dad, though it will mean a lot more driving to watch their son.

One of Indiana's other players is not returning and has put his name into the NBA draft. Cem Dinc played in a total of 3 games as a freshman for Indiana last year, and scored a total of 3 points.

Just thought I'd add a little more to what has already been said. From what I heard, Coach Sampson really rolled out the red carpet for Lance when he visited IU. Sampson also told him that he would get most of Vaden's minutes (Vaden left IU and followed Mike Davis to UAB), which was a big factor in the decision.

I have heard that Lance's girlfriend - one of the reasons Lance transferred back to junior college- will also be attending Indiana.

You know... with LS leaving BU and later going to a B10 school... kinda nice to see the B10 is getting MVC rejects.

Marquette wasn't able to get Lance Stemler, so they settled for his teammate today.

Lawrence Blackledge, 6'8" SG/SF, formerly of Carbondale high school and who was a teammate of Lance Stemlers at Southwestern Illinois CC last year, committed to Marquette today.

Here is a quote from the article-
Blackledge visited Arkansas State, Bowling Green and Duquesne in April. Southwestern Illinois coach Jay Harrington told JS, "He is an under-the-radar kid."

He averaged 10.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 blocks while shooting 56% for SWIC. The school finished sixth at the NJCAA nationals with a 34-4 mark.

Talk on the premium Indiana/Rivals board that some people think Lance Stemler should be a starter, since the thing they have really lacked of late is an outside shooting threat.

Well, I continue to be shocked about LS's recruitment and signing to IU. Here G Doyel has in his "10 for Tuesday" a reference to IU getting 2 JUCO's:

"... Sampson already has signed two impact players for next season, junior college forwards Mike White and Lance Stemler..."

Man... I think J Les is a good evaluator of talent, but after I saw LS a couple times I thought this one was just a filler for a shooter. But maybe Les was right. Maybe LS IS the real deal. Well, I'll believe when I see it - I guess. However, I doubt he hasn't sped up any. LS would get eaten alive by the defense in the MVC. I would expect the same out of a conference like the B10. But maybe I am wrong. Maybe LS is gonna be an impact player in the B10. I just won't believe it til I see it.

I tend to agree with you, MM. Lance had a great season at SWICC, but I have seen some games in the conference they play in, and they play very little defense. That allows a good shooter like Lance to put up big numbers.

Lance will surely struggle next year trying to adjust the quickness, size, and strength of other Big 10 players. I don't blame him for choosing to go to IU, but if he averages more than 5 minutes a game, I will be shocked.
