  • ESPN.com Article about Conference Over/Under Achievers

In Pat Forde's article on Conference Over/Under Achievers, here is what he says about the MVC.....

    Missouri Valley

Player of the Year: Josh Young, Drake. He's the leading scorer on a balanced team that dominated the league. The sweet-shooting sophomore has hit 45.3 percent of his 3s this season and was at his best scoring 25 points against Butler in a high-profile BracketBusters game.

Coach of the Year: Keno Davis (14), Drake. Any questions?

Unsung Hero of the Year: Illinois State sophomore guard Osiris Eldridge has elevated his game and brought the Redbirds up with him, all the way to second place in the Valley. Eldridge is averaging 16.3 points and an impressive 5.6 rebounds per game for a guy who goes 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

Bust of the Year: Wichita State (15). Former Winthrop coach Gregg Marshall has landed in a disaster area. The normally competitive Shockers' next loss with be their 20th, and they are next-to-last in the league. Two years ago, they were in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Minutes Moment of the Year: ESPN GameDay arrives in Carbondale, Ill., for showdown between league rivals and perennial powers Creighton and Southern Illinois. Bluejays and Salukis bore America senseless with 48-44 display of crawl ball.

Here is a link to the entire article.....

Now that conference tourneys are officially here, it's time to break out some hardware for the overachievers and underachievers in their respective leagues. And The Minutes can't help but throw a little love to the Little Dances as well.

Can't really argue with much of that except for the unsung hero part. I don't think anyone in the Valley could call OE "unsung". Everyone's been talking about how good he is all year and he get first team all-conference.

Hey Forde! I seem to recall some very low scoring Big Ten games this year, many involving perennial powers Michigan St and Indiana! These type of games happen in every conference, not just the Valley.

How much blame do the ESPN decision-makers get for scheduling the game in the first place? SIU has been notorious for that style of play ("crawl ball") for a bunch of years now. If they didn't want that, they shouldn't have scheduled SIU!!!
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

--For the Shockers it sure is a big drop in a couple years, without a lot of hope in sight. Whether you agree or not, I think all stems from Turgeon's desire to let one talented kid play despite the kid being a cancer to team chemistry.

--Funny how Forde takes a swipe at the SIU-CU game because of the low score.
I don't recall him making an issue when St. Louis scored only 20 points in an entire game earlier this season.

or when the Billikens again scored a measley 36 against Dayton, and West Virginia only score 39 on the same night.

Or when Texas A&M only scored 37 against Oklahoma, or the numerous games that Illinois scored in the 40's and 50's, and even Indiana only scored 49 against Wisconsin on National TV!

What if Bradley at Creighton was a gameday game. They would probably not be done talking about it.
