tornado, I agree we have had some tough kids as you named. Hope he adds to this list. I question the 3 stars when I look at who was recruiting him. Something does mot add up. Hope we got a steal. Time will tell. Good luck at BU and remember "Once a Brave always a Brave."
Don't let the fact that there were no "big-name" schools mentioned. This kid had many big name schools after him out of High School. He was a Top 100-150 recruit coming out of high school (he must have flown under their radar this year). He was listed right behind DeAaron Williams.

Can you imagine the excitement on this board if we signed a top 100 recruit? Well, WE DID!!!

Here's hoping for big things from Mr. Salley
I cannot get too excited yet. I will believe he is good when I see him perform. 13 Pts and 8 RB in JUCO? Didn't the paper say Rider and East Carolina? Wow... Sorry, but I have been let down too many times before. Maybe that is partly because I am a Cub fan...
He's part of the team now. Let's support him unitl we know better. He may be a high-quality "team" player and didn't look to score everytime he got his hands on the ball. He does need to get to Peoria this summer and work on his FT shooting.

Congrats to Jim and his staff on this announcement. He lists on one site at 6'7" 215lbs. This is what we needed, size and strength.

Man, that just shows how wrong those ratings can be!

While it is great to get somebody signed at this point that can play down low...let's not go overboard with this signing just yet. Salley appeared to be pretty highly rated coming out of HS, but other than this odd 3-star rating on one website that we all appear to have locked in on, there is nothing to indicate that he is very highly thought of right now...especially since no schools of any significance (Western Carolina and Rider???) were recruiting him. Now, I'm not saying that he can't or won't be an effective guy at BU...but the comments in this thread like 'he is the highest rated recruit coming into the Valley this year' and 'we signed a top 100 recruit' are simply not true and quite laughable. Creighton has three guys in their recruiting class alone this year (Miles, Morrison, and Lawson) that every single recruiting website would rate significantly ahead of Salley...Coming out of HS, Salley was a fairly highly rated prospect...but two years later coming out of JuCo, he is not mentioned anywhere on any JuCo top 100 lists that I can find...so we'll have to hope he somehow fell between the cracks over the last two years and will blossom at BU. I'm rooting for the kid, but to say things like 'he's like a top 100 recruit' or 'the best recruit coming into the Valley' are both incorrect and create horribly unfair expectations for Matt Salley...

We need to hope he falls into the Lawrence Wright (only 1 DI offer besides BU) and Will Franklin (BU's 2nd choice) category of under-the-radar spring signees.

Salley has yet to sign. Yes, he has given a verbal commitment, but after the Roy Bright situation, I am still nervous until BU receives his signed letter.

george, didn't ISU just get a committment from a kid out of Minneapolis (Alex Rubin) who had not been given any offer by any other D-I school? And and yet the comments here on this board were positive and complimentary towards the kid.
So let's try not to be too critical of Salley because he is a BU recruit.

Reminder---some people said the same things a year ago when it was annoucned that BU had signed Will Franklin. Some questioned why BU would sign a kid that nobody else was recruiting.
Jim Les has been pretty successful with his recruits.
No other MVC coach in the past 5 years has recruited a kid who may turn out to be an NBA lottery pick.

This is good news, glad we got a big guy comin in. As for all these recruiting websites, who cares. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are way wrong. Lets give him a chance to see what he can do, and hopefully he can come in and make a big impact on the team next season.

From time to time there are reasons recruiters back off.
Tyrone Kent, Jamarcus Ellis, etc... even good kids like POB have some recruiters drop their efforts for various reasons.
Let's wait and give Salley the opportunity to show his stuff.

For what it's worth, here is the first recruiting site that is announcing that Matt Salley has officially signed--
CBS Sports features live scoring, news, stats, and player info for NFL football, MLB baseball, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, college basketball and football.

Still listed as a solid verbal on Rivals--

Scout.com reports only that Bradley has offered.
