I think it's rather sad that the player who is arguably the best in the league only gets Honorable Mention. And, Stinnet gets both Freshman and Newcomer of the year? Good grief, Theron could kick that guys rear ..and should get Newcomer, and Sam M had to be right behind him for Freshman. I hope the guys take this awards as personal insults and rip the field this weekend. I'm getting sick of our program being treated as second class. How about the rest of the folks here?

Ruff missed to many games to be first team. Had he played every game he probably would have been first team and JC second. You cant have two first team players on team that finishes outside the top 3 IMO. I do agree that TW should have NOY.

Ruffin didn't get shafted. He missed half the conference season.

Maniscalco didn't get shafted. He had a great year, but I think Stinnett had a better one.

Wilson DID get shafted. Stinnett did not have a better overall year than TW.

I believe that PG is the one position nobody else can play and a team is doomed without one.
Stinnett, although a little better scorer in conference play (13.2 vs. 9.4 ppg)
that all the other factors (ball handling, assists, lack of turnovers, team leadership, etc) make Sam Maniscalco as valuable as Stinnett.
BUT because both Ruffin and Maniscalco had their league play curtailed (Ruffin by injury and suspension, Sam by the presence of DRuff) then I can understand why the NOY went to PAS.
Also, BU finishing 5th doomed us to less consideration in every other category.

I'm just stirring the pot a bit for comments and killing time prior to the tourney Obviously team performance colors how the awards are divied out, but I can think of years past where the didn't amtter. I remember back to NIU in the 90's and Cam Johnson and whomever the other guy was--considered the two best players in the league for a two year period, but Northern Iowa was mediocre. I can also remember years where we were in the top three and still did not get much in the way of awards. However, could it be the reality of what folks think of our program as a whole--that we just don't have the players and we finish no better than 5 seed in recent years?

As I said in another thread, there should be no lack of motivation for this group on Friday. There shouldn't be on Saturday or Sunday either, but especially Friday.

I'm with BradleyBrave-- Theron Wilson should definately have been NOY over P'Allen Stinnett.

I think everybody in the MVC knew we had a rediculous amount of talent the S16 year. (I recall several coaches talking about how talented we were, We were like a NBA team with a 7'er and 6'5"/6'6" guards on the bench) I think they were all very glad it (talent) did not show up until the last 10 games..

Ruffin did get shafted. He deserved to be on the 2nd team. It is hard to put him on the 1st team with his injury, but had he not had that setback he could have been on the first and might have been the POY. Since we didnt play untl late in the season I really didnt follow your early MVC games, but I did see that you guys didnt play all that well without him. Had he been there early in the year your record would have been much different, maybe top 1 or 2. In which case I could easily make a point that DR is the best player in the league.

As for Theron vs. P, I think it is a toss up, IMHO. If I put on your shoes I can see how Theron's numbers are good in many categories in which case he is much more deserving. I must stress how big a part of our seasons success is due to P. But i think we got a little lucky on this one.

As for Sam vs. P. Sorry dudes. There is not really any contest there. Sam is a good player and easily the second best frosh in the conference. Put P is a step above.

Just thinking out loud but did Stinnett get the nod because Wilson missed the WSU game because of the suspension. Because, if thats not the reason Stinnett did not deserve the new comer of the year award.

Then again Ruffin was good enough to make honorable mention all conference but he was not among the top 6 defensive players within the conference. Is this a joke? No way, no how are PJ Cousinard, Gabe Moore or Boo Richardson better defensive players then Ruffin.

I sincerely hope we come out Friday with a few of these things in mind.

I love Daniel but it is well-documented how he gives up monster games to opponents. He doesn't deserve to be on the all-defensive team. Witter made him look like a freshmen on the defensive end last Saturday.

Wow, you guys are missing the most important stat, Stinnett played about 10 less minutes per game and put up better numbers (since numbers seem to be what arguments are being based on).

I'm surprised PAS was NOY but if he had played 30+ minutes per game, his numbers would be way up there. As it is, Altman has placed his team AGAIN in a position to make a postseason run by spreading the minutes.

I have no problem with Stinnett as FOY or NOY. But I doubt that any of the people voting look at the minutes per game. I think the voting is mainly based on the voters perception of overall performance. Stinnett did not likely get any extra consideration because of the minutes he played.
