  • Don't know where to put this topic, but...

Not really sure if this is the right board, but it'll get attention here, so here goes:

    To admins/community:

I'd like to request a couple of things...

    1. Can we put up an additional BB for Basketball Recruiting? We get news all year from the great posters on this board about recruiting. It can be a challenge to go find something that was posted six months ago, and I think if we had it all in one place it would be a bit easier to follow.

    2. A similar request for BU soccer. I'm a big fan, and I'd like a soccer-specific forum (as most of the soccer posts end up either under basketball or other sports)... Anyway, just wondering if it's possible/or others are interested.

We have considered these things in the past. The separate board for recruiting is a good idea and many college message boards have that. But it seems that there is enough stuff on this basketball board, that other forums never seem to get any significant traffic. We don't want to become like some boards that have too many different forums that people don't know where to go to find things.

The soccer suggestion has also been considered. All the people who are involved here as moderators are also big soccer fans. But we have always allowed soccer topics to be posted on the basketball board, so if we have a separate board, actually far fewer people would see them. So for now, we will leave soccer discussions here on the basketball board.

You can always use the search function across the top red banner to find info about recruits and other topics that have fallen off the front page of topics.

We will try the separate forum for recruits and recruiting, but if it doesn't get much use, we'll move the topics back to this forum.
One other concern of ours is that the posters who post most of the information about recruits and recruiting will have to do twice the work now to post new info here, and also post it in the recruiting topics. We'll see how it works.

Here is the new recruiting forum. It may take a few days for our posters to put some stuff up in it.--

Thanks for giving the recruiting bb a shot, we'll see how that turns out... I didn't think about the need for recruiting info to be double-posted, because I made the assumption that if there were two boards the main board would be for current team/game posts only... but, either way, thank you for hearing me out.

I think you have a good point too on the soccer posts allowing those who are not yet fans of soccer to be exposed to it.

        my 2 cents

Please don't make separate boards for basketball topics and recruiting topics.

Reason--because BU doesn't have football, and 99% of the readers on this board are already fully tuned into basketball and recruiting, as one single topic.
If you begin splitting basketball, recruiting, soccer, campus issues, womens b-ball, then the next thing you'll have a mess of a board like what they have at Northern Iowa, where you have to repeatedly review several different boards to be sure you aren't missing topics that all have to do with Jim Les, BU basketball, and players.

But fish has a good point. Old recruiting threads are hard to find once they slip off the first page, yet some viewers still want to be reminded of the names and information regarding those recruits.
Maybe we can post current info here, but leave a shadow topic in the recruiting forum so it will be easily found.
We'll also try to keep individual topics going there on each Bradley recruit, so their progress and reports of their games can be found.

Yeah, I mean, I know there's a search function, but if you searched for Sikes, for example, you turn up a page worth of threads, when what you're really looking for is the player info someone posted when he first hit the radar-- I think having a recruiting board helps keep you from turning up the mentions like, "boy I hope we land a big man like Sikes for next year" that are embedded into a game thread pointing out that our frontline couldn't compete against opponent X.

I agree though, that we don't want the board to become totally unfocused, and so agree that unless we have a flooding of soccer posts that we just leave them in the basketball/general sports boards.
