  • MVC Tournament Bracket

I really like our side of the bracket. I think we have a great shot to get to the final game against ISU or SIU. (Hope it's ISU, though)

I think even though we lost, the Braves will gain more benefit from yesterday's game than Creighton did.

First....since win or lose, both teams end up playing the same opponent and the same game, means neither team really gained nor lost in this setting.

But, I believe BU gains more confidence playing at this level on the road after winning at home against Creighton.
Creighton although thankful to win must be a little concerned that they couldn't put away a shorthanded BU team at home, and they might have trouble in a neutral setting.

        By my count....

There were 25 games decided by 4 points or less. There were 7 games that went into extra periods (2 were Dbl OT). 4 of the extra period games extended beyond 4 pt advantages.

So anyway, I'd include the 4 OT games that were decided by more than 4 points making a total of 29 games.

Drake was involved in 8 of them.
ISU was in 7 of them.
        SIU in 5.
        CU in 7.
        BU in 7.
        UNI in 4.
        Mo St in 5.
        In St in 4.
        WSU in 7.
        EU in 5.

It might give Creighton a little lift to know they beat a team they just lost to by 28 points.

I think that we'll get a lift from the way we played last night despite the loss. We went on the road to arguably the toughest place in the Valley to play and took CU to double OT. To be honest I never enjoy losing, but how hard would it be to beat a Dana Altman coached team three times in one season?

Our players need to believe that they can beat Creighton on a neutral floor ; ISU may have gotten a tougher draw then SIU because Missouri State is playing well with wins over Drake at home and Indiana State on the road, this tournament is up for grabs as I believe 5 teams have a good chance on winning it.

Did anyone else notice that there is no #8 seed but there are two #5 seeds?

EDIT: Looks like the error was corrected on the MVC page.

I'm very glad we stayed away from SIU and ISU. I think ISU is our toughest match-up and SIU basically plays home games in the Scott Trade Center. I think our draw gives us a good shot to make a run to Sunday.

How about a repeat of 2006 MVC Tourney where the 5 seed BU beats the 4 seed CU, and then goes on to beat the #1 seed in the semifinals? Of course, we'd like to change the Sunday outcome.... but that would be nice to see history repeat itself....

If history really repeated itself, we'd lose that Sunday and we have zero chance at an at-large bid this year ... I know what you were getting at ... but it's a new team! Let's write our own history!
                        Go Braves!

FWIW here's an internet report on the MVC Tournament
They call it "Arch Madness." No, really. They really do call it "Arch Madness."The table is set for a Saint Louis style four day feasting of Missouri Valley Conference basketball...

I am convinced he gets his info from people who are not well informed.
I have lost all confidence in his credibility.
