  • NIT/CBI chances

Okay everyone. What do all think of our NIT or CBI chances in the unlikely event we don't win the Valley tournament? I know some have suggested it's good we lost tonight so we didn't have to win our third game of the year against Creighton. But I think we needed this win to at least clinch a spot in one of these tournaments. We still have a good shot with a 17-14 or 17-15 record, a fifth place finish in the #8 conference and a 93 RPI, but we're cutting it close. But I am just curious as to what others think.

I have a breakdown in my bracketology thread. Part of the issue is that no one really knows how the CBI is going to go about their business (I think they're going to offer bids to teams before the NIT does. Which means teams have to choose between taking a CBI bid or waiting for the NIT. This will probably mean some good teams will be left out of the postseason because of the shuffle).

I projected us in the CBI, barely missing the NIT, going into today (based on the presumption of 6-8 autobids being snatched up).

I can't foresee us falling below the CBI. I'd want to beat Creighton, just in case.

If you forced me to guess:

QF loss: 50% CBI 25% No postseason 25% No postseason
Semi loss: 80% NIT 20% CBI
      Finals loss: 100% NIT
9-game winning streak: 100% National championship

Honestly - we don't get an invite. (IMO)

But... (IMO) are we a top 50-100 team? Yes

I just wanna go on record as saying....

This new tourney is gonna be nothing but BCS teams.

Don't hold your breath waiting for an invite unless you belong to the BCS6.

Well, one of the reasons I asked this question is that last week I was looking at last year's CBI mock draft. Comparing those teams with the RPI, most of the RPI top 100 teams with above .500 records would have received a bid. Also, the CBI committee said they would have taken #86 and fifth place Northern Iowa last year with a 9-9 Valley record and 17-13 overall record. Of course a mock draft is just that, a mock draft. But I think that gives us hope for some sort of postseason.

I agree though that beating Creighton on Friday is probably strongly recommended to make sure we get some sort of bid.

Of course, also keep in mind that the CBI probably would need to make some money off their new venture. Therefore a Bradley home game or two would help immensely, and may go a long way in their selection criteria!

                  FWIW

The CBI's "mock bracket" for what they would've done in '07:

                  7 BCS
                  9 non-BCS

That's fine AS.... but I don't think it willl turn out like that this year in reality.

                    So does....

                    Perception = Reality

                    ???

                    We'll see.

Exactly. That gives us hope. However, this mock bracket took place under the assumption that the CBI would get all of the NIT leftovers. Now they are saying that they will pick before or at the same time the NIT teams are getting picked. So it seems like we will have a complete free-for-all on which tourney gets which teams. And it's hard to guage which tourney will choose the most BCS teams. I'm confused as to how this will all play out. But I do know that with 16 more teams chosen, Bradley's chances to be playing outside of the NCAA tournament look a heck of a lot better this year.

Yeah, I don't think anyone has any idea what's going to happen.

The NIT bubble teams might accept the CBI bids. The NCAA bubble teams won't.

We need to win friday to have any chance at post season ; this season has been full of ifs as if D.Ruffin had played in all of our games this season I believe we would have 4 more wins and not having this conversation.

Well, considering all 4 of our home conference losses were without him, it's hard to argue that. Although, the fact that 2 of those losses were to UNI and WSU kinda make want to argue that, especially the way we lost. It has been a lost season that's down to one final chance to make it worthwhile.

Based on Bradley's home attendance and fan support it would be foolish not to give us a home game in either NIT or "what-ever-that-other-tournament" is. I'm still hoping for a miracle, though
