  • Eddren McCain/Reserve Christian

News articles about BU commit Eddren McCain have been few and far between. But here is an article about McCain and Reserve Christian high school who are 36-9 and play tonight in their state tournament playoffs with a home game against Singer HS. Reserve is going for their 4th straight state title, and 6th out of the last 7 years. They won their last game 116-55.

The article says Eddren McCain has averaged a triple double this season.

To repeat something we've posted before--
Eddren McCain's team, Reserve Chrisitian High School of Reserve, LA, is one of the smallest schools in the smallest division in the state of Louisiana. Because his school does not play football, they are allowed to start playing basketball about a month earlier, and they are allowed to play many more games than any other high schools play in any state. But they are a basketball powerhouse and play a huge number of their games against the larger class schools. I think all their losses came against the large schools, and they are the overwhelming favorite to win the state championship again this year.

Of the recruits so far, I am very curious to see Eddren play and how Eddren will adapt to the collge game during his freshman year.

Remember, Eddren has a teammate that is also very highly rated in his state, and he's only a sophomore, scoring 40-55 points in some games.

Even half of his HS output will be relatively successful his first couple yrs at Bradley. Just hope he doesn't get the cold touch like TCS has latched onto. We already know we have bonafide starting players in SM, AW and TW. Combine them with a hopefully good Thompson and Mccain with just enough from Egolf, Austin, collins, TCS and whomever else off the bench and I think we'll be just fine for another decent season. To bad thats another 9 months away LOL.

HS stats mean nothing. JJ Tauai was a scoring machine in high school, and was anything but an offensive player at BU. I haven't seen McCain play, so I can't say one way or the other, but we shouldn't set expectations or make judgments based on high school statistics. He's good enough to play at this level, or else we wouldn't have offered him a scholarship. That's all we know for sure at this point.

None of us has seen him play, but Coach Brooks has seen him multiple times, and other coaches have seen him too. I hear the coaches are very high on Eddren. They project him to play some next year in the guard rotation.

Apparently Edderen has put up consistently good stats against some of the best HS competition in the country, including some west coast team I believe. The kid is for real.

The other top team in the Class C Finals is Atlanta

Atlanta is presently 38-0 and ranked #1 in Class C.

Louisiana's State Finals are called the Top 28, because the final four teams in each of their SEVEN classes (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, B, C),
all come to the same location
(at Louisiana-Lafayette's CAJUNDOME) and they play basketball from dawn to late night until it's all over!

"Reserve Christian is the defending Class C champion and is making its eighth tourney appearance. RCA has five state titles.
Atlanta (38-0) is the only unbeaten team in the seven-class field. Atlanta battles Athens, the 2007 runner-up, in a Class C semifinal Wednesday."

---ps---one last question I have is why does the NCAA allow the team
nickname "Cajun" and even allow them to call their arena the "Cajundome"?
There are actually some "Cajuns" who are offended by this!!
The term "Cajun" was (and to some degree still is) a derogatory name for the
French people who populated southern Louisiana, and is little different than
calling Indiana "Injuns", Germans "krauts", or Polish people "pollacks".
The word "Cajun" is a slang term for "Acadian", a term referring to French
settlers from Acadia (a loose term for the community of French settlers in
Nova Scotia and Northern Maine...that later relocated in Quebec)
Most experts on the subject will tell you that "Cajun" is a derogatory term
like "Chink" and the "N"-word, although the very people to which it refers (the
French descendants) now seem less offended by it and even use it
themselves, but that's to a large degree, because of the commercial value to
things that are "Cajun"....such as foods and spices.

According to the teams schedual he only played one game against a team outside of the state.
