  • BU women beat SIU, 77-72

Raisa Taylor led the Braves with 28 points for BU's first Valley road win this season.

Freshman Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) scored a season-high 28 points and senior Devyn Flanagan (Riverton, Ill./Riverton) made a pair of free throws with 8.9 seconds left to help Bradley pick up its first Missouri Valley Conference road victory of the season with a 77-72 win at defending regular-season Valley champion Southern Illinois.? The victory gave the Braves a regular-season sweep of the series and moved BU into sole possession of eighth place in the conference standings.

But the real question is: Why did they play at noon in Carbondale?

    Thanks Scouter.

That's a big win for them.

I see a brighter future on the horizon for the BU Women's team.

I think Raisa could be a very good player... I don't know what to think of the ladies team thuogh, since I suspect we'll have a new coach next season.

Found the answer to my question.

"SIU also has the opportunity to play in front of a large number of elementary students as part of its Field Trip Day. More then 1,800 students are expected at SIU Arena."

The BU women did this a couple years ago with District 150 for their home opener. My ears are still ringing from the shrieks of 2,000 12-year-olds in the field house. I can't imagine what a sellout crowd would've been like there!

You might be right, but I got a feeling PB gets a chance with new arena/facilities.... but not much of a chance. We'll see.

Yeah, we'll see. PB's teams seem to play defense alright, but offense generally looks lost and I'd say our players don't show a lot of progression over their careers. I think Krumweide is a prime example of a player who isn't a lot better than she was as a freshman.

I THINK that since women's basketball is a money loser for the university that PB will not be fired. But I would ASSUME that if PB hasn't produced a better record by the time her contract expires that BU will choose not to renew it as they did with the volleyball coach. I have no idea when it expires.

That's a good point that I had not considered... I don't think they'd buy her out, though I saw President Glasser at the last game cheering-- can't say if she shows up at other sports like Vball-- but maybe she's taking an interest in the women's program. I personally think that even if it's a money loser, Bradley should strive to build a strong women's program, though I don't know if winning would bring any bigger crowds than we already see.

I think President Glasser is taking an interest in the womens' programs as well she should. When Monica Rogers got hurt she personally went to the bench to console Monica. That said there is no outcry to replace PB as the fan base is small. That's why I think PB's contract will be allowed to expire IF she cannot produce a winner.

Since we're talking women's baksetball....I did a few of their games this year for bubraves.com and couldn't help but notice that freshman Sonya Harris is a complete load down low. She is like a "woman among girls" (does that translate to the women's game? haha) on the block. I watched her completely dominate against SIU in their first match-up.

In just about 9 years as head coach at Bradley Paula Buscher is:

                        95-130 overall.

Does that type of losing, regardless of sport, revenue etc deserve continued employment as the head coach of a Division 1 program?
