Scorer's Error Costs Ohio State the Game

This is a pretty sad case of a scorer at the Ohio State-Indiana womens basketball game (at Indiana),
making a one point error favoring Indiana in a game that eventually went to overtime and Ohio State lost.

Could this be even more indisputable evidence that Indiana cheats, or is it just an innocent mistake?
(the scorer and the scoreboard operator are employees supplied by the home team)

From reading the article yes it was the fault of the scorers table but the OSU staff knew it was a situation and they should have insisted that time was stopped and it was taken care of rather then relying on the scorers table or officials to take care of it.

One article says the OSU coaching staff pleaded with one of the refs, but was told to be quiet and that the ref would take care of it...
it was never taken care of, though.

This sounds pretty bad but what was the coaching staff doing? I know it said that they had notified the scorers table and refs and asked for a correction but in a situation like this you would think they would be freaking out and pulling players off the floor until it was corrected.

I worked in sports information years ago in college and worked the stats at basketball games. What is put on the score board means nothing, its what is put in the score book. If there is a problem or descrepency the game officials (scores table) will notify the officials who will review the situation and make the proper correction. This seems like it was known but no one did anything about it.

Regardless I think if the OSU staff including SID knew this was happening, they should have called a time out and made the officials go to the scores table and had this situation solved. But the Indiana game staff have a lot of respondsiblity in this situation and they should have stopped the game and had the officials over to discuss.

Indiana should voluntarily forfeit this game.
If you think this is without precedence, then think again.
Bradley once forfeited a game voluntarily, 24 hours after it was completed and in the books, just because of a borderline issue with the clock/timekeeper, that may NOT have made the difference in the game, but BU did the honorable thing.
Don't look for IU to voluntarily do the honorable thing.

I agree ultimently the management of a game is the respondsiblity of the school who is hosting the contest. The management of a game includes the officials. Indiana's mismanagement of the game is very obvious and they should at the least go back to the moment the free throw was missed and replay those minutes following the missed free throw. Nothing can be assumed but the known is that Indiana was credited with a point it did not earn. Indiana and the Big Ten owe OSU the opportunity to take this lose to a win. But I think it should be earned on the court not in a forfeit.

Either way no way anything happens other then Indiana taking an unearned win.
