  • MVP of the Euroleague---> Anthony Parker

Anthony Parker was named the MVP of the Euroleague for the 2nd year in a row! Anthony has secured his status as the best pro player not in the NBA. Congratulations AP. His team, Maccabi Tel Aviv will play tomorrow for the Euroleague championship.

    That's great! Congratulations Anthony!

I noticed the Peoria Journal Star had an article about Anthony's team winning Friday to move into the championship. Do you think they might have gotten it off the Bradleyfans board? When was the last time anyone at the PJS gave a hoot about Parker and his exploits in the Euroleague?

Well, I hope they report this MVP award, too. In fact, with AP's strong connection to Bradley and Peoria, I wonder why they haven't done some kind of story on him and his career. He is a superstar in Europe, and I have no doubt he could be a star in the NBA.

I was surfing around that Euroleague site, and it reallly seems like AP is a huge star over there. I knew that he was successful, but I guess I didn't really realize just how much so.

      Here's something from a 12/04 interview I found:

People love you in Israel. What is that like for you to be taken in and made a national star there?

"It's nice. Whatever your job is, you like to think that people appreciate you. That's how I take it, as appreciation. People show me a lot of love in Israel. They appreciate what I do on the court and also who I am off court. And that's what I like most, when people say positive things about me as a person, not just as a basketball player."

That's really awesome, it's a shame that I don't hear more about this in the pjstar or anywhere else for that matter.

Here is the Maccabi team site. They have a couple more new articles on Anthony. Unfortunately, they are in Hebrew and not yet translated into English.

Anthony and Maccabi Tel Aviv play for the Euroleague championship today (Sunday) in Prague, at 1:30 pm Central Time. Here is a site that will allow you to watch via broadband video webcast. There is a $9.99 charge posted for a package that includes all the Final Four games- they allow viewing of the archived games anytime-- The 2 semifinal games from Friday, and the 2 games today. There is also a 3rd place game at 10:30 am CT.
I don't see where you can just buy the Final game today. But I think it would be worth the price of a couple gallons of gas to watch AP win another championship.

They will also name an MVP of the Final Four after the game, and AP has as good a chance of winning that as anyone. Besides winning the MVP of the entire Euroleague the past 2 seasons, he won the MVP of the Euroleague Final Four in 2004, but was edged out last year by the Maccabi point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius, who is now playing in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers.
